DAVE HYDE 1967 - 1986 PILOT DEN MARRIED TO FLIGHT ATTENDANT SALLY MARSHALL HYDE David will turn 60 on the 16th of May, and his last day at Boeing will be May 15th. Sally Hyde (4/26/01) Here is a shot of Butch Carr, David Hyde and Dick Kardell by Dick's RV-8. Butch's is completed now and waiting for Butch to get well and fly that sucker... The foto was taken last April in Conroe, TX. -Billy Walker (11/2/03) Here is a photo of the Frontier guys who showed up for the Hall of Fame festivities. L-R: David Hyde, Dave Kaplan, me, Bob Ashby, Beetle Bailey, Doug Bader. Kneeling is Frank Malone now a senior A-320 captain with JetBlue. In addition to my wife, Cheryl, there were 3 FAL Stews there too: Tomme Kaplan, Sally Hyde, and Pat Williams Harter. David Hyde retired as a Boeing 777 test pilot, Dave Kaplan retired as a Continental check airman, Bob Ashby was the last Frontier pilot to normally retire (1986), Doug Bader snuck back into the cockpit when the Age 60 Rule changed to the Age 65 Rule. He presently flies the Boeing 777 for Continental with his daughter Jessie as his co-pilot on occasion. As for me I finally got tired of retirement parties and happily fly my ol' 1943 Stearman albeit it is still being restored soon to be back flying... -Billy Walker (4/23/11) Wanted to let you all know the latest on what is going on with David's health. Many of you already know that David has been struggling the last couple of years with cognitive brain function issues. He cannot have an MRI due to his ICD, and has had 3 CT brain scans over the last 2 or 3 years, which have all come back relatively normal. Following an angiogram on August 24th (which went okay) he had a dramatic increase in neurological symptoms that prompted a new scan procedure called a DatScan. We just received the results of the DatScan which found "scintigraphic findings are consistent with nigrostriatal degeneration indicating Parkinsonian syndrome." As I understand the scan, it can definitively tell you what you do not have, but with a findings such as above, a diagnosis of what you do have is dependent upon symptoms experienced. David does not have a tremor, but apparently there is another type of Parkinson's disease where a tremor is absent. The suspected diagnosis is Lewy Body Disease, which is sometimes referred to as Lewy Body Dementia. This is what I believe he has. We will see the neurologist in the middle of October. There is no cure, but apparently there are some treatments that may diminish his symptoms for a while. You can look it up on the Internet for a full description of symptoms, most of which he already has. At the moment, the most bothersome symptoms are that he does not recognize me some of the time (although he recognizes everyone else); he has some hallucinations (for now they are not threatening and mostly consist of animals and people that are not there); and he is having some difficulty sleeping through the night (possibly because he seems to have a lot of dreams). I plan to look into some naturopathic treatment for some of his symptoms. Bastyr naturopathic medical school is located here, so we seem to have more naturopaths in this area than most. If any of you have contacts or links to any clinic or treatment related to Lewy Body Disease, please send that to me and I will take a look at it. If you call here, he probably will sound pretty normal to you. We are trying to just live our regular daily lives, but for now travel might be pretty difficult. We might try an overnight trip in the car to see how that works. David is in the shower right now, and knows that I am sending this message out. I will be sending this message to others over the next few weeks, but you are at the top of the list. Please feel free to forward this to anyone else that you think will want to know what is going on with David. -Sally Hyde (9/26/15) FLacebook RIP Captain J.David Hyde... Sally called this morning with devastating news that David has Gone West. His heart gave out during the night. No services planned. There may be a celebration of David's life later. David has been dealing with some tough medical issues apparently stemming from his recent surgeries. Sally believes his heart just couldn't tolerate the medications. Many of us have known David nearly 50 years. What a great friend he has been, always helpful, and we now are left to draw down on those wonderful memories David has left for us. David Hyde RIP I know you all deserve a personal phone call, and may still get one, but email seems to be the best way to send you all the latest update on David. It is with a broken heart that I must tell you all, that David was released from the hospital on Friday morning; entered Rosewood Courte as a resident early Friday afternoon, and passed away late Friday night from what appears to be cardiac arrest. The best I can piece together is that David fell asleep sitting up in a chair and never woke up following a sudden cardiac arrest late Friday night. I last saw him around 8:30 in the evening and received a phone call around 11:30 that night. The symptoms that he had been experiencing from Lewy Body Disease/Dementia had continued to rapidly progress and his future was very dim indeed, so there is some comfort that he was spared that terrible future experience, but it hurts nevertheless. No funeral service is anticipated, although we may plan some sort of gathering in the near future, both here in Edmonds and the Atlanta area. Prior to Friday, I think our son Stephen described the affects of the whirlwind of recent events best when he commented that he felt like he had received a head injury. Now we unfortunately have to add broken hearted to it all. -Sally Hyde (10/25/15) J D HYDE Pilot seniority date of 6/5/67 DOB 5/16/41 per the Sep 1970 FL/ALPA Seniority List.
