DAVE DODD 1952 - 1986 PURSER, PILOT GSW DAL DFW DEN Unfortunately the original Central Pilots have gone west, with the exception of Del Booth who's in a managed care facility in Silverdale, WA. George Ceshker and Paul Liscomb as well as Dave Dodd are still alive and kicking and living in Ft. Worth. -Clyde Hart (2/9/05) There is a good story out there about Capt. David O. Dodd giving the MKC Chief Pilot a Snapping Turtle, with a big bow on it, for Mothers Day, if you can find anyone with all the facts. -Duke Ellington (1/20/08) D O DODD III Pilot seniority date of 11/27/54 on the 9/1/72, 9/1/81, 9/1/86 (#3) FL/ALPA seniority lists. Dave was a CN purser before becoming a pilot. -Jake Lamkins (1/20/08) Posted at FLacebook and the FL Club: DFW DEN Pilot Dave Dodd has died. http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/dfw/obituary.aspx?pid=159985734#fbLoggedOut -Jake Lamkins (10/6/12) Dave was a purser at CN in 1953 (see pix) and probably earlier. Note his name misspelled Dave Todd in two of them. I have not been able to establish his employment dates then. CN replaced the pursers with stewardesses in late 1953. Dave may have left the company then and came back in 1954 as a pilot as that is when his seniority date starts. The Nov 1964 article notes his 10 year anniversary which suggests there was a break in his service. I will show his date of hire as 1952 until something more definite is received. -Jake Lamkins (10/16/12) Posted at FLacebook and the FL Club: DFW DEN pilot Dave Dodd's memorial webpage is posted: http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Dave_Dodd.html -Jake Lamkins (10/17/12) There seems to be some speculation as to Dave Dodd's date of hire. If my memory serves me correctly, Dave was hired as a Purser on the Central Airlines Non-Sked operation out of San Antonio flying C-46s. As that operation wound down, there may have been a time when they let him go because he wasn't needed there and the scheduled operation had no openings. There may have been others in the same boat. Dave was a cropduster before he came to Central and that may be what he did until Central had openings. Anyway, Dave was a good pilot with a very dry sense of humor and sometimes, a quick temper. I flew co-pilot for him a few times and we became friends as a result. I remember one thing he passed along to me. Most of the Captains had there own way of doing things but I was suprised that Dave flew strictly by the book. His reasoning was: Although it might be easier and quicker to work up shortcuts and "pet names" for daily use, when it came checkride time, you better be current and familiar with the book because if you aren't, it will be glaringly apparent. What better way to stay sharp than to fly it by the book all the time. So I did (or tried to). I vaguely remember something about him giving a turtle to Lockett but I can't recall the whole story. I'm sure there are many more. -Frosty Frost (10/18/12) Thanks for the additional info and remembrances, Frosty. Some references to a Dave Todd confused things. I think it's a typo. Take a look at the attached pic which has that mistake. It looks like Dodd on the right with Paul Carey to the left. -Jake Lamkins (10/18/12) You're right, it must be a typo. To my knowledge, there had never been a Dave Todd at Central. And you're right again; that is Paul Carey and Dave in the picture. -Frosty Frost (10/19/12)
