DAVE CANNON 1948 - 1978 PILOT SLC DEN Check Golden Age Of Flying book Dave Cannon Mentioned on pages 90, 274, 275 -Jake Lamkins (12/22/00) Photo by Dave Rampton FAL Christmas party At SLC airport about 1966 Back Row: Joe Ferguson, Ken Dealy, Mark Markwart, George Snyder Next row standing: Fred Blakeley, Andy Hoshock, Floyd Ririe, Bill McChrystal, Bert Hall, Dick Hoffman, Bob Bollinger Next row standing: Sam Grande, Karl Kenney, Dave Rampton, Ike Issacs, Jack Robins Seated: Jay Curtis, Dave Cannon, Calvin Cowley Deceased of this group: as of 2001 Dealy, Markwart, Blakeley, Hoshock, Ririe, McChrystal, Bollinger, Cowley -Al Kendell (9-21-01) I was originally with Monarch Air Lines but I believe Challenger before they changed their name was Summit Airways and they flew Beech aircraft. I'm not sure of this - - you'll have to ask one of the old timers of Challenger; i.e. Jack Schade, Bob Lambourne, Dave Cannon, etc. When I came with Monarch, we used AT-6 aircraft for our route qualifications so don't be surprised to see an AT 6 with Monarch Air Lines on it. -Ace Avakian (8/31/06) D S CANNON Pilot seniority date of 6/14/48 on the 8/1/72 FL/ALPA seniority list. Denny Finke has seen him and, hopefully, will pass along our best wishes for his 93rd BD. I have a couple of good photos of Dave back when he was Army Air Corps and liaison for my Dad's CPT schools. GREAT guy to fly with always entertaining. -Billy Walker (5/8/11) Posted at FLacebook and the FL Club: SLC Pilot Dave Cannon has died. http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/saltlaketribune/obituary.aspx?pid=159815661#fbLoggedOut -Jake Lamkins (10/6/12) Email to Billy Walker: You heard about Dave Cannon and Dave Dodd flying west, didn't you. Do you recall the flight attendant murdered in DEN? Seems like it was one of the Huber girls. -Jake Lamkins (10/7/12) Thanks to you, I learned about Dave. I knew Dave Cannon since birth. Dave Cannon was the Army liaison to my father's CPT schools training pilots and mechanics for the military. I think I sent you a photo of Dave with a parachute over his shoulder along with a Colorado senator taking him for a flight. He and my parents were great friends. He stayed at our home many times. Dave delighted in telling the pax and cabin crew via PA that he used to change my diapers. My Dad called him "Boom Boom." He loved Dave's "stories" as did I along with all of us so very fortunate to have known him... I know, having Gone West, Dave enjoyed smooth air and soft tailwinds after lining up on runway two-seven... -Billy Walker (10/7/12) It was real lucky I found out about Dave. I periodically check the legacy.com website for Frontier Airlines entries. Then I check the predecessor airlines. Had I not checked Challenger, Dave's flight west would have gone undetected. Kinda strange the obituary mentions Challenger but not Frontier. At first, I thought it was another David Cannon then spotted the birthdays matched. Please mail me a copy of Dave's WWII photo you mentioned. -Jake Lamkins (10/7/12) Re: Dave Cannon WWII photo: L-R: Colorado Senator, Edwin C. Johnson; David S. Dave and I go back to 1959 my hiring at Frontier. Oh, the times we had. So long, be seeing you, Spud Jack. -Jack Robins October 10, 2012 Posted at FLacebook and the FL Club: SLC pilot Dave Cannon's memorial webpage has been posted. http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Dave_Cannon.html Post your remembrances of Dave. -Jake Lamkins (10/12/12) Our thoughts and prayers are with the Cannon family. When I first read of Dave's flight west, I immediately thought of him keeping the rest of the flight crew laughing along with his quoting of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. A great pilot and true gentleman. -Jim Currie October 12, 2012
