BUTCH CARR 1967 - 1986 PILOT DEN I received some information from Beetle Bailey and Jim Buick regarding our friend and fellow aviator, Captain Butch Carr. Butch has a tough fight ahead and I thought you may want to pass this along so we all can send best wishes and prayerful thoughts his way. Ace & Jack - Butch is a member of the Conroe, TX QB Hanger. Blue Skies & Tailwinds... -Billy Walker (9/16/03) IT'S NICE TO HEAR FROM YOU; TOO BAD IT'S UNDER THESE CONDITIONS. BUTCH HASN'T FELT WELL FOR ABOUT SIX MONTHS AND HAS LOST 22 lbs. IN THE PROCESS. EVERYONE, INCLUDING DONNA SUGGESTED THAT HE SEE HIS DOCTOR BUT BUTCH JUST THOUGHT IT WASN'T ANYTHING TO WORRY ABOUT AND IT WOULD PASS. ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO, HE WENT TO NEBRASKA FOR A VACATION AND TO CELEBRATE HIS MOTHERS 88th BIRTHDAY. HE FELT WORSE. HE AND DONNA FLEW HOME TO TEXAS, THURSDAY THE 4th. FIRST THING THE NEXT DAY, FRIDAY, HE SAW HIS DR. AND THEY TOOK BLOOD FOR A WORK-UP. (RESULTS MONDAY). BY MONDAY, HE FELT EVEN WORSE WITH SEVERE STOMACH PAIN AND DONNA TOOK HIM TO THE HOSPITAL. THEY DID A "MRI", AND FOUND SPOTS ON/IN HIS LUNGS, PANCREAS, LIVER AND BONES. FURTHER TESTS DISCOVERED MORE SPOTS ON HIS HIP AND FEMUR. THE SPOTS HAVE NOT BEEN CONFIRMED BUT SOME OPINION SHOULD BE FORTHCOMING TODAY. A LYMPH NODE WAS REMOVED LAST THURSDAY FOR TOXICOLOGY ANALYSIS AND RESULTS SHOULD BE KNOWN TODAY. WE ARE, NEEDLESS TO SAY, VERY CONCERNED ABOUT BUTCH. WE ALSO KNOW, AS YOU DO,THAT HE IS IN THE BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD FOR TREATMENT (M.D. ANDERSEN) AND BUTCH IS A FIGHTER AND HE WILL OVERCOME ANY THING THAT LAY AHEAD. WE ARE HOPEING AND PRAYING FOR SOME GOOD NEWS, TODAY. I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED. I HOPE EVERYTHING IS WELL WITH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. AGAIN, IT IS NICE TO HEAR FROM YOU. REGARDS, -JIM BUICK (9/15/03) Subject: Captain Butch Carr We spoke with Butch and Donna Carr this morning after having been informed, by Beetle Bailey and Jim Buick, that Butch was dealing with a tough cancer issue. Butch is meeting this challenge head on with his ever present marvelous attitude. Ol' Butch has always had a warm smile along with a good word for everyone. Most of us are familiar with his great sense of humor and poetic talents. Those attributes will serve him well in his coming fight with this terrible disease. Butch and his family could use all of our prayers and best wishes. Blue Skies & Tailwinds... -Billy & Cheryl Walker (9/15/03) Jake, Please post on the web site. Bob Williams sent this as the latest on Captain Butch Carr. -Billy Many of you may know that Butch has been feeling ill for quite some time. His doctor checked him into the hospital on Monday September 8th. Afterseveral days of testing he was sent home on the following Friday. On Monday the 15th, Butch and Donna received confirmation that he has SmallCell Lung Cancer in the Extensive Stage, meaning that it has spread to multiple organs. He is currently receiving radiation treatments on an outpatient basis with MD Anderson at the Woodlands. He was thrilled. The words from all the old gang mean so much to him. He is down to about 100 lbs, but the chemo is apparently reducing the size of his tumors. -Dick Kardell (1/22/04) Dear Friends, Butch has encountered some turbulance, Cancer has returned, he started Chemo today, 23 Jul. There is a short update on his CaringBridge web site. -Bruce Carr, brother Bruce, Thank you for the update albeit we are so sorry to learn the cancer is back. Our thoughts and prayers will be with Butch and the family. I remember meeting you when you were a major in the airforce assigned to B-52's. The time has sure flown by... -Billy & Cheryl Walker (7/23/04) Posted at Butch's webpage Many of you have heard that Butch is in the hospital and not doing very well. Hes been in Memorial Herman, Woodlands since the 9th of September but the doctors have been unable to control his body chemical levels. If he can make it past the 22nd with no other problems coming to surface, the doctors (and everyone else) will feel better about his situation. By that date the remaining chemo should be out of his system and the chemical levels can go back to a more normal level. Bobby has come in from Denver to help sit with Butch and keep him company. Butch would like to get out of the bed and move about, but he is currently too weak. Someone stays with him around the clock to make sure he follows the doctors orders. These orders also mean that Butch and Donna wont be attending the Nebraska airport dedication, but they will be thinking of everyone there. Donna, Bobby and Tammy all thank you for your prayers and phone calls. However, because Butch and Donna have so many good friends, they are currently inundated with messages. They ask that you refrain from calling; contacting Tammy by email instead (her address is below.) She will be checking her account each evening. I will also be posting updates on this website more frequently and will be happy to forward any messages (my email address is also below.) If you would like to go see Butch you are welcome, but please be prepared to stay for only five or ten minutes. Anything longer tires Butch. Again, thank you for the prayers for Butch and the entire Carr family. All of your support means a great deal to them. Bless you all, -Maggie Sims (9/20/04) Gone West L. D.
