BUDDY KOPP 1950 - 1979 PURSER, PILOT FTW ACF GSW DAL DEN DFW THE ARRIVAL OF DC-3s By late 1950, we were operating two round trips daily from Fort Worth to Tulsa and Amarillo with DC-3 equipment. It was a big step up for we were no longer a make-believe airline. We flew night and instrument schedules and proudly carried in the cabin of our airplane the forerunner of todays stewardess. There was a difference though; they were male. Many of our original pursers are still with us in responsible positions with the company. Some of them are: Emmett Spinks, David Dodd and Buddy Kopp, Captains; Pete Jones and Nelson Embleton, Flight Superintendents. Accounting's Charlie Kleinecke and district sales manager Hal Harbuck got their start with Central as pursers. -A Pilot Remembers by Harry Logsdon From the September 1964 CN SKYWRITER newsletter Buddy Kopp died 8-82 -FARPA newsletter (5/7/05) B J KOPP Pilots seniority date of 12/4/51 per the Sep 1972 FL/ALPA Seniority List. He would have been 60 on Sep 9, 1979. -Jake Lamkins (10/4/15) My sharpest memory of Buddy is from a summer night in STL in 1969. He captained a CV580 flight which arrived around 10 pm. It must have been a long day because he was not in a good mood. He and his crew would RON and take the CV580 out next morning. I had to park him in the corner gate and I had to squeeze him in between a TW B707 and our own B727. It got too tight for his comfort and he shut the CV580 down while still between the two jets. "They can tow it the rest of the way!" he blurted. I felt I could get him on in but he would not listen. So I deplaned the passengers about 100 yards from the gate and they hiked to the terminal while I had the ramp crew unload it. Buddy and his crew went to the hotel. TW was already screaming at our operations that we had them pinned in and their flight would be delayed. It took awhile to get our mechanics out to tow the now empty CV580 into the gate. I wish I still had the paperwork that resulted from this mess. TWA really raised hell about it and they were the biggest STL operator at the time. -Jake Lamkins (10/54/15) B J KOPP DAL 737 captain per the May 1973 and May 1974 Pilot Domicile Lists. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ B J KOPP DEN 737 captain per the Apr 1975 Pilot Domicile List. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ B J KOPP DAL 737 captain per the Apr 1976, Mar 1977, Apr 1978 and Mar 1979 Pilot Domicile Lists. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Apparently he retired when he reached 60 years old in Sep 1979. -Jake Lamkins (10/6/15) FLacebook - FL Club FLight West: Buddy Kopp FTW ACF GSW DAL DEN DFW pilot Buddy Kopp's memorial webpage has been upgraded: http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Buddy_Kopp.html Still need a photo and obituary for Buddy. -Jake Lamkins (10/6/15)
