BUDDY GRIFFIN 1961 - 1986 STATION AGENT LBL FYV LIT DEN SGF Buddy Griffin worked LBL, FYV, LIT, DEN, SGF -FL Club (3/13/04) Jake, I think they quit serving Ada & Ardmore when they start serving SLN and the othe Kansas and Colorado cities in 1961. -Buddy Griffin (3/22/04) FL Club : Laurie Robbins has joined us. Laurie, good to know you are still kicking. I came to SGF from LIT via DEN. Maybe you might remember me. PS - are you still living in SGF? -Buddy Griffin (1/24/05) I was working the counter in LIT one night. We terminated the last flight which came thru HOT. We had terminated the flight and I went back to the counter to shut it down and there stood a man, He said I was on your flight that just came through HOT, I was supposed to get off there. What are you going to do about it? As usual, I told him what the company would do for him. That was not good enough for him and he keep pressing & asking what I would do for him. After quite a lengthy discussion I finally said this is off the record and is not what the airline wants you to do, but as for I am concerned you can walk back. -Buddy Griffin (1/28/05) FL Club Ramp knees I had my left knee replaced last Oct and will have the right one done this Oct. May I suggest you not put it off until you are too old to for them to do the surgery. A friend of mine that I have gone to church with for several years. He is 96 now and if not for his bad knees could probably do a pretty good days work. When he was in his mid to late eighties they would not do the surgery. -Buddy Griffin (6/26/05) I was a station agent in Liberal, Kansas, Fayetteville, Ark., Little Rock, Denver and Springfield, Mo. I went to DEN, and worked in Air Freight, in October 1984 when LIT closed. Later I took a leave of absence and went back home and worked odd jobs until I was notified by Denver that I would have terminate my employment or return to DEN, or there was an opening in SGF. I went SGF in Aug 1985. -Buddy Griffin (2/16/07) His date of hire was 3-6-61 same as most of the Mar06/61 group seniority tie was decided by age. We had three of us in LIT: Bernie the oldest, myself next and Hank youngest. All hired on 3-06-61. When I was hired Central sent me a letter wanting me to report to LBL on Mar 28, 1961. When I acknowledged they advised me it was intended to be 2-28-61, It was somewhat inconvenient for to get things in order for to go that quick. Had I known that so many others would be hired that 3-06-61 I would have gone to LBL on the 28 FEB 61 some way. HA HA! -Buddy Griffin (2/26/07) FL Club 22 years ago today - Sunday, August 24, 2008 I was in SGF, I was to and did go to work at 5 AM. when I got to work Sam Jones and 1or 2 Seniors were already there. They had the Ticket Counter area striped, the flight board off the wall and all logo removed. I delivered bags when I could, and I worked the night before, As usual when had I delivered bag I took the money out of the ticket counter and then they took it out of petty cash, so needless to say I had to put it back the next morning. I don't remember how much it was but it was something over 100. dollars. I never collected it. In less than one hour I had gotten my few belongs out of my convert motel apartment and was head to Beebe, Ark. I had just turned 50 in June. I started job hunting almost as soon as I got home. I found out that it was not going to be an easy task to find a jobs. I applied for unemployment, and after a couple of weeks started getting a check. All the while making the required number are more job contacts With little or no luck. after 2 or 3 months I got a job with Midwestern Window Co. on commission, But drew a salary for 3 weeks while training. It was an extremely high pressure sales company mostly trying to take advantage of older people, so left that and reapplied for unemployment, which was denied. I sold National Motor Club membership for about nine months, no benefits. I was final able to a job at Ark. State University at Beebe. I was shipping and receiving and in charge of Central Stores, All supplies for the college were received and issued and delivered by me. Not great pay, Fair, with good benefits. I worked there from early 1988 to June 2001 when I retired. I also raised cattle and horses, I still have a few horses. We were hit by tornado's twice on Mar 01,1997, which is our wedding anniversary and again on May 03,2003. In 97 the old house was so badly damaged it was repairable. In 2003 the new house had over 100,000. dollars in damage. My wife retired from ASU Beebe Dec 31,07. Since that time we only do what we want to if we want to. Frontier was the best, I too would not work for any airline in today's environment. We were lucky to work when we did. -Buddy Griffin (8/24/08) Mar 01 it will be 49 years Cynthia and I have been married and Mar 6 will be 49 years since I went to work in LBL. Seems like forever in some ways and just yesterday in other ways. It was Feb 1962 we came FYV. I really enjoyed working in FYV with everyone EXCEPT Sam Mc. (station manager) and except for that would probable been there with rest of you when FL pulled out. Lots of water has gone under the bridge since then. -Buddy Griffin (2/4/10) Please say a prayer for my Dad today. The VA is finally removing his gall bladder today after 2 years and 3 rounds with it. He is suppose to have surgery about noon today. Please keep my mom in your prayers also. With her Alzheimers she doesn't understand any of this and just misses my dad being with her. -Danny Griffin (8/12/18) Buddy passed away in October Smith Westbrook Funeral in Beebe. https://www.smithfamilycares.com/obituary/Buddy-Griffin Shirley and I both still here - eyes bad but health ok. Best wishes for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and your birthday. Next year we can celebrate your 90th and my 80th. Big hug for Shirley. -Jake Lamkins (11/24/21) Buddy's seniority date of 3/6/61 was a huge hire date for Central Airlines. That was when Central had a large expansion of the route system into Kansas. There were 51 agents with that seniority date on the Jan 1962 Central agent seniority list. The Oct 1986 agent seniority list had 11 left after just over 25 years. Since age was the seniority tie breaker, they are listed oldest to the youngest. -Jake Lamkins (12/12/21) FLacebook Frontier Memorial Webpage Posted BUDDY GRIFFIN 1961 - 1986 STATION AGENT LBL FYV LIT DEN SGF http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Buddy_Griffin.html Post your remembrances of him.
