BUDDY FAUGHT 1946 - 1948 CHA PUBLIC RELATIONS DIRECTOR SLC Do your records show anything on Buddy Faught? Former U.S. Senator Alan Simpson of Wyoming told me his parents bought shares in Frontier back when Frontier was just getting organized because of their admiration for this man. -Art Giffin (11/17/12 I have a news clipping which says CK Faught left Challenger in Jan 1948 to become director of aeronautics for Wyoming. Another item says he was in the federal government in Nov 1961. -Jake Lamkins (11/17/12) Internet: Seeking Faught info Posted by: Carroll Kirk Faught 111 Date: November 13, 2000 at 15:01:34 of 515 I'm just starting my search for family. All I know about the Faught background is that my grandfather came from Illinois. His father fought in the civil war. My grandfather, Carroll Kirk Faught , worked as a telegrapher for the railroad in Wyoming. He married my grandmother in the early twenties. My father, Carroll Kirk Faught Jr., known as C.K. Faught or Buddy Faught, was born in Rawlins, Wyoming in 1923. I am Carroll Kirk Faught III and was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1950. Does anybody have any ideas on where I go from here? Thank you. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Posted by: Mary Faught Miller Date: January 23, 2001 at 15:32:12 In Reply to: Seeking Faught info by Carroll Kirk Faught 111 of 515 Who was your grandfather? I have some remnants of a Civil War uniform from and Illinois voluteer unit of the GAR. My father has passed away with out sharing what he knew. Kirk (11/17/12) Buddy is mentioned in the book Inferno: The Epic Life and Death Struggle of the USS Franklin in World War II By Joseph A. Springer several times. Buddy lost his leg during WWII. He was with Preston Blatter at Alaska Airlines in 1967. Blatter was a FL vp-finance 1952 - 1960s. -Jake Lamkins (11/17/12) I have not been able to determine when Buddy started with Challenger Airlines but I expect it was 1946 or 1947 soon after he left the military service. -Jake Lamkins (11/23/12) Posted at FLacebook and the FL Club: SLC director-public relations Buddy Faught's memorial webpage has been posted. http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Buddy_Faught.html Just found out about Buddy who was with Challenger Airlines in the early days. -Jake Lamkins (11/24/12) Here are two photos of Buddy along with an article from 1965 in the Phoenix Gazette. I will send more when I dig 'em out and if Kirk finds some we can use on the website. Please correct my recollections note previous. We called Buddy's wife "Annie" but her name was Ann. Also, Buddy never actually flew "with" Pappy Boyington. He was a member of the Black Sheep 214 squadron. Boyington signed Buddy's wooden leg after the war. Kirk has the leg with Boyington's signature on it. The two photos of Buddy were given to my Dad in 1944. My dad taught both Buddy and Dale Oaks to fly in the CPT program (Plains Airways). They remained close friends for the rest of their lives. -Billy Walker (11/26/12) Letter to the LAR newspaper: I am trying to find some information about WWII Marine pilot, C. K. "Buddy" Faught. Faught learned to fly at Laramie in the Plains Airways CPT program. He became a "Corsair" pilot and was a member of the "Black Sheep Squadron," the 214. He survived the bombing of the USS Franklin. After the war he was involved in many facets of Wyoming aviation including a stint at Director of Aeronautics. He was one of the founders of Frontier Airlines through his involvement with Summit Airlines and Challenger Airways. Faught did much for the advancement of aviation in Wyoming. He had a Plymouth car dealership in Laramie in the mid to late '50s as well. Hopefully, you have some archival information on Faught. I hope to honor his memory by nominating him to the Wyoming Aviation Hall of Fame. Thank you, in advance, for your courtesy and consideration. -Billy Walker (11/26/12) Thanks for the photos and additonal info. I'll be updating Buddy's webpage soon. -Jake Lamkins (11/26/12)
