BOB WOOD 1953 - 1963 CENTRAL AIRLINES BOARD OF DIRECTORS ACF GSW I did not work for Central. I was just starting out to college in the fall of 1955. My dad was on the board and partners with Mr. Johnson and Mr. Stewart in Central and many other business ventures. I met Mr. Kahle many times. They were in our home in Midland often as was the whole Ambassador and Central bunch. Dad's name was Robert L. "Bob" Wood When my dad passed away, I got the Hubbell print and the Central memorabilia. My children have a lot of it and I have told them all of the stories of those days. I think of them often and my wife tells me I dwell on the past too much. Well, they were great folks and good models to dwell on. It is not like that today and I miss them, and their era, very much. -Lee Wood (Bob's son) (4/7/02) I contemplate the changes as I read the letter from the old Central and Frontier folks, what pride and devotion they truly had for their fellow employees, their company and their job. My dad always told me he was sorry how business had changed. He was loyal to his old colleagues and friends until his death in 1993. He would never believe that corporate management had changed and become what it is today. Lorenzo and his group were just the tip of the iceberg. It is even worse today. I was just starting out when the great old companies were beginning to change. They went from the source of good to the vampires of the work place. I imagine the old Business Ethics classes at UT are long empty. It is very sad to hear about the old days. My business is the same as the old airline business, most, if not all, of the good guys are gone. The oil business is the same. I am now 65 and have maybe ten years left in business. I hope I am able to leave a few memories as great as we all had of fifty years ago. Keep the Frontier News coming, it is very refreshing to read of good times when most of the corporate giants were good people. P.S. Would you please send me a list of all the old station codes. I know a few, but not near all of them. -Lee F. Wood (10/21/02) I am looking for Central Airlines memorabilia - please contact me if anyone has any for sale. My father-in-law was one of the founders -Sally Wood (3/19/05) I've corresponded with Lee in the past. I worked for Central and we've had some interesting email exchanges. He took my newsletter for awhile. -Jake Lamkins (3/19/05) OBITUARY Lee Files Wood "Papa", 67, surrounded by family passed away Sunday, April 24, 2005. Bob Wood was a member of CN's Board of Directors when the actor Jimmy Stewart was on it in 1955. Bob's son Lee was a member of our club too. Lee died last April and Bob died Jul. 1, 1993 aged 82. -Jake Lamkins (2/11/06) The Feb 1963 article notes Bob having ten years with CN. A Nov 1963 article lists CN board members and Bob is not listed. So, it appears he left the board sometime in 1963. -Jake Lamkins (1/9/13) Posted at FLacebook and the FL Club: GSW CN board director Bob Wood's memorial webpage has been upgraded. http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Bob_Wood.html Six items added and moved to a non-ad website. Still need a photo of Bob and his obituary. -Jake Lamkins (1/10/13)
