BOB WILSON 1953 - 1967 AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, CREW CHIEF, INSPECTOR, SUPERINTENDENT OF COMMUNICATIONS FTW ACF GSW ROBERT EARL WILSON BORN: September 28, 1917 in Rupert, Idaho. GRADUATED: Toddville High School in Toddville, lowa--Salutatorian Bob Wilson worked for the C.C.C. (Civilian Conservation Corps) in 1937, 1939, and 1940. Served our country in World War II for almost four years in North Africa in the Army Air Service Communication System. Married Katherine Thorp in Soap Lake, Washington on March 21, 1945. This March 21, 2000 will be their 55 th anniversary. Children Don Wilson, son and Nancy Wilson Toombs,daughter. GRAND-CHILDREN Three Granddaughters, Stacey, Stephanie, and Susan. GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN- expecting a great granddaughter in May. After going to Electronic School in Chicago, he brought his wife and Don to Fort Worth in the fall of 1946. They lived in Riverside for almost 3 years, then they bought a home in River Oaks in June 1949. RIVER OAKS RESIDENTS ALMOST 51 years. Then he began his work with River Oaks Boy Scouts. While in Riverside he began to work with the youth at the Handley Baptist Church. After moving to RIVER OAKS He worked with the youth at West Side Baptist Church never realizing just how much BOY SCOUTING was in his blood. A Captain at Tarrant Field Airbase (now Naval Airbase) ask him to be an assistant Scoutmaster at the John Knox Presbyterian Church. Little did he realize how many boy's lives he would touch in the next 50 years. He had to make a decision whether to help the Youth of the Church or Boy Scouts. He felt he could do more to help others in Scouting and work with Don, his own son. IN SCOUTING: HE HAS BEEN A SCOUTMASTER, ASSISTANT SCOUTMASTER, COMMISSIONER, AND SERVED IN MANY POSITIONS ON CAMPOREES. HONORS: HE IS IN THE ORDER OF THE ARROW, DISTRICT AWARD OF MERIT of SILVER STAR DISTRICT, and the HIGHEST AWARD FOR A VOLUNTEER THE SILVER BEAVER AWARD from the LONGHORN COUNCiL. WORK IN FORT WORTH: Bob's first job was with WILSON RADIO CO. (Not ours) for 7 years. Worked for CENTRAL AIRLINES AS SUPERINTENDENT of COMMUNICATION for 13 YEARS. BELL HELICOPTER FOR 19 YEARS. He and two others patented a process. He was recognized for developing this process that saved Bell Helicopter a lot of money. COMMUNITY SERVICE: Bob was active in Scouting and 50 years in River Oaks in supporting his wife in many activities.Castleberry School projects like PTA. RIVER OAKS// SAMSON PARK CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. RIVER OAKS CLEAN-UP DAY 100 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF CASTLEBERRY SCHOOL DISTRICT. GIRL SCOUTS, CHRISTMAS IN APRIL, YOUTH GROUPS AT CHURCH, CASTLEBERRY PRE-SCHOOL PTA, and 50 YEAR RIVER OAKS ANNIVERSARY. FAMILY ACTIVITY: Bob is a great husband, father, and Grandfather. Bob has always been to all the events of his children and grandchildren, no matter how tired or how far he and Katherine had to travel. HE IS A FRIEND TO ALL HE MEETS AND ONCE A FRIEND THEY ARE FRIENDS FOR KEEPS. HE HAS TOUCHED MANY OF THE ELDERLY AND DISADVANTAGED for 10 Years delivering MEALS ON WHEELS. LIFE AT THE WILSON HOUSEHOLD HAS BEEN GREAT. SOME YEARS GREATER THAN OTHERS.
