BOB STONE 1977 - 1986 PILOT MCI DEN KANSAS CITY LAYOVER 2007 BEST YET!! MAY 18 - 20, 2007 The layover committee checked into the Hilton - Kansas City Airport on Thursday and began preparations for the 2007 Kansas City Flight Crew Reunion/Layover. The first to show up on Friday was Bob Stone (FAL Pilot 1977-1986) who checked into the hotel at 9:30 am in time to go to breakfast with the layover committee. And, the party was on!!! By Friday evening, a good group of FLamily had checked in and we were enjoying drinks and hors d'oeuvres in the lobby/bar area. Sometime around 9 pm the party moved to the "Crew" room upstairs for more drinks, pizza, more stories and laughs. Saturday began with breakfast at 10, although I found Jim Appleby holding court with a small group in the "Crew" room about 8:30 that morning, already back at telling each other lies and war stories. By 3 Saturday afternoon, the party was in full swing again. The evening was filled with much laughter and picture taking. And, thanks to JoDelle and Laura, two huge barrels of KFC showed up. Before the evening was over we were joined in the "Crew" room by layover crews from the "new" Frontier, Midwest, American and Chautauqua Airlines . They could not believe that after 21 years the "Old" Frontier was still so much a family and still having the time of their lives together. I think I can safely say that we did show them what an airline layover/party should be!!!! Sunday morning saw us in the restaurant for breakfast at 10 and then hugs, kisses, hand shakes and "good-by until next year". This was probably our smallest attendance for the KC Reunion/Layover BUT, most everyone agrees that it was probably our BEST!!!! Those attending included: Bob Stone, Steve Tidler, Jim Appleby, Laura (Jones) Colvin, Gerrie Donaldson, Lanette Duncan, Howard Logan, John Green, Mike Gadow, Rusty Lambert, "Jack" Frost, JoDelle (Davidson) Burwell, Ken Larason, Tom Hollister, Neil Miller, Terry Calkins, Dan & Grace Scantlin, B. J. Blackerby , Barb Carroll, Lisa Sachetta, Carl Lorenzen, Sue (Cahill) von Geyso, Frank von Geyso, Ron Gallop, Claudia (Morersch) Roach and Phil Stallings. -Phil Stallings (5/23/07) A pilot by the name of Bob Stone is trying to correspond with you to order copies of last years news letters and this years but he wrote your address down wrong so envelope got returned to him. I told him I would take care of it for him but he's resending letter to you. -Bonnie Dahl (4/10/12) Hello Jake, Enclosed you will find $20.00 (cash). I would like to subscribe to your FAL News letter. Thank you! Sincerely, Robert R. (Bob) Stone FAL #13346 (4/16/12) Hello Everyone: I send this message out with a heavy heart. Bob continues to noticeably fail. He has lost about 50 lbs, he is so thin, the nurse estimates his weight at 155 lbs. He doesn't eat much, doesn't drink much, has trouble swallowing, starting to gag and regurgitate, sleeps more, less responsive, can't verbalize, VA Dr. gave him 2 to 4 months. Rick and I wrote his biography last week. This week I have to plan his leaving this world while I can still think and plan. My heart hurts so much it is hard for me to concentrate on what I have to do. Please pray that Bob is at peace and has no pain or discomfort or worries. Thank you all for your prayers. -Arlene Stone (2/25/20) I'm looking for a photo from better days when Bob was a CAL 737-800 captain on a PHX layover. He was a joy to share the flight deck with at good ol' FAL! -Billy Walker (2/27/20) Hello again: Emails are getting harder to send out. None of us know when the end time comes but many end of life signs are becoming apparent. With his rapid decline the nurses are thinking by next week end. Being his wife, I am not sure we have that much time. I am in the process of arranging his service. Many tears are being shed and my heart keeps breaking more and more. Bob has requested to be cremated and buried in the Military Cemetery. That would be Ft. Logan in Denver. I am planning to have a service here in Weld County near where we live first. To add more heartbreak to me, I had to make arrangements to have his mare put to sleep yesterday. Her arthritic knees became too much to bear. She was laying down more than standing up, she could't walk anymore, and I was bringing her water and food to her because she couldn't walk. She is now waiting for Bob at the Rainbow Bridge so they can enter heaven together. Amazingly, her name was Rainbow. His kitty, Button knows something is going on as she sticks to me like glue. She use to just sit with Bob and now she needs me to comfort her. And maybe her to comfort me. I do a lot of crying. Please reach out to friends, family, and neighbors of Bob's decline. I will probably send out only one more email and that will be when he becomes absent from the body and present with the Lord. We all know where he is going. I miss him dreadfully and pray God will give me the strength to honor him the way he deserves to be honored. Love to all. -Arlene Stone (3/8/20) Lee, you and Bob are in our thoughts and prayers. It is difficult to imagine what you have been dealing with. It seems like yesterday that Bob was in Arizona to visit his Dad. We shared a nice breakfast together at LePeeps those many years ago. Somewhere there is a photo. When I find it, I'll share it with you. Thank you for letting us know through Phil Stallings. -Billy Walker (3/8/20) He is gone. 2:00 Friday morning the 13th. He is in heaven. Heaven is now his home. Healed and whole. Celebrating his life and all the wonderful things he did in life. Jesus gently took his hand to take him home. I will let everyone know when and where the services will be held. There will be one at The Cowboy Church and one at the Military Service at Ft. Logan. My heart is hurting and I am a broken woman right now, please don't feel the need to respond for a day. I need time to process the loss and letting go of the one man I so loved till death do us part. He never saw the inside of a Nursing Home. He was here with me the whole time with the best care ever. I miss him so much and I can't speak right now. I am not alone. The ladies that cared for Bob, cared for me too and are still caring for me. I am ok. Love to all -Arlene Stone (3/13/20) FLacebook posts: Kayla Naima RIP Bob , my condolences to his family Rick Broome Here's a Toast... Liz Gomez RIP, Bob Stone, sincere condolences to the family! (3/14/20) Kevin Finke Kind of sad when friends fly West ahead of their time. Here are a couple of shots I had of Bob Stone. I flew as his copilot just before he retired in Jul 2006 and I gave him this specially painted Frontier 737 photo that illuminates when placed under a black light. I'll never forget how wonderful Bob's laugh was, it was contagious to everyone he came in contact with. Al Beardsley What a Great Guy!!! Bob was always smiling! Rest In Peace Brother! Ginger Treptow Rest in Peace Bob. Carol Bartley 2 great Pilots. Bonnie Dahl So Sad! Steve Tidler Thanks for posting, Kevin.... Bob was a great guy and well thought of by many of his peers at Frontier! Our hearts go out to Bob's wife and family ! (3/17/20) Hello Everyone . Bob's services will be on hold until this virus pandemic is cleared up. They have closed the churches and the funeral homes. However, the funeral home has a web page that will allow everyone to post comments and pictures. Mark, the funeral director will also keep you updated if things are to change. I won't schedule any service until I know for sure travel is open and safe and secure. It my be a month or two but I will still have a church service and a Military Service. Hopefully back to back, one day after the other. The funeral home address is www.marksfuneralservice.com Heaven is now his home and I know they welcome him with open arms and much love. I miss him so much and will the rest of my life, but I take comfort in knowing he is with family and friends and I will be with him again someday. He is my one true love. Feel free to text, email, call or even write. I will also keep you updated on changes. In the meantime, just remember him as the wonderful man we all knew he was. My friends and neighbors are good to look after me as well as Bob's Caregivers. They sit with me when I am hurting most, bring me meals, and run errands for me. They are truly priceless and they loved Bob. They knew what a fine man he was. Love to all. -Arlene Stone (3/17/20) I treasure my time spent with Bob. We shared the flight deck at the historic old Frontier. Later, when I was retired and Bob was a captain with Continental we had some times together when he had layovers in Phoenix. Bob's father, retired Northwest Captain Robert Stone, lived in Scottsdale. So, occasionally Cheryl and I would benefit from Bob's visits with his Dad. Bob Stone was a first class fellow, a fine aviator, and our world is suddenly less with his absence. Keep the runway clear ol' friend. Your buddies are not far behind! -Billy Walker (3/17/20) Hello: It appears it will be a couple months before any services will be allowed. However, I have a Funeral Page set up for him and I do accept texts, emails, phone calls and snail mail. However, I do not do Facebook or any social media so any postings done there, I do not get. I am so grateful my loving husband is safely tucked away with our Lord Jesus. Although I miss him every day, I know he isn't suffering anymore and he is right where he belongs. I am so glad I had him the years I did. Grateful to all -Arlene Stone (3/20/20) R STONE Pilot seniority date of 8/30/77, #307, Per the Sep 1986 FL/ALPA Seniority List.
