BOB LUKOW 1963 - 1985 PILOT DEN Beech 99 incident near Greeley It was a night inbound to Stapleton when the 99 lost the #2 prop. At the same time the engine departed from the airplane, part of the blade went through the airplane actually hitting the #1 prop, but narrowly missing the toes on Skip Pennyweights foot! The captain was Bob Lukow, the f/o was Skip. Skip is now with the FAA in DEN. -Billy Walker (1/23/99) Hi, My name is Bob Lukow, a Pilot for Frontier until 1985 when I retired. Just got off the computer after my first vist to the FAL web sight, which I found by accident. I wish I had known about this site along time ago. Any info you can pass on about becoming a member would help. Thanks, -Bob Lukow (1/30/07) B E LUKOW Seniority date of 8/3/63 on the 9/1/72 FL/ALPA seniority list -Jake Lamkins (1/30/07) I had moved to Florida before I retired in 1985, and have been here most of the time, I did see Army Armstrong a couple of times, and Don Donaldson a lot, however I moved up to VA for about 3 years and then came back to FL, so I didn't even know about Don' s Death. -Bob Lukow (2/1/07) Letter with packet of info on GXY incident - he was the captain on the flight . Hi Jake, I hope that this information and pictures are OK, if not I will try to do something else. The actual photos I copied are the only ones I have. I will try to write up a little info for you. I sent some photos to Skip to the address that was listed in the Mag. Have not heard from him but will let you know if I do. -Bob Lukow (2/24/07) B E LUKOW Pilot seniority date of 8/3/63 on the 10/28/67 & 9/1/81 FL/ALPA seniority lists. -Jake Lamkins (7/26/08) Talked to Bob on the phone about some FL Reports from the latest News. He said he was doing good. ---------------------------------------------------- Great talking to you, Bob! A lot of the material in the Beech 99 Frontier Report is thanks to you and the packet you sent me two years ago. Add in any other Reports you want. Thanks for your support, -Jake Lamkins (7/21/09) Hi Jake, hope your feeling great and in good shape. I'm still looking at the grass from the right side. Don't get around too good, but at 81 - whats new. I would like to get 3 copies of the Beech 99 accident, my kids all would like to have it. -Bob Lukow (12/11/11) Bob phoned and explained he wanted three hard copies of the report. Said he had sent $20 and sounded confused. Said he didn't have altheimers but was having trouble with memory and confusion. Said he got the attachments I sent but didn't think he could do anything with them. Told him I would get them mailed asap. -Jake (12/12/11) Missed a call from Bob. He was asking about his FL NEWS subscription. I called him back at 3 pm and got his recorder. I left a message that his sub expired in July and he can re-new with $12. -Jake Lamkins (12/7/12) Note with renewal: Hi Jake, Sorry I was so late with my mag. I have not been too sharp for awhile, as I have very low blood pressure. I don't know how I could have missed it. Thanks, -Bob Lukow (12/11/12) Captain Bob Lukow has flown West -Phil Stallings Received this in my morning email traffic from Clay Riecker ... No other information at this time ... ==================================== Bob Lukow flew west on Friday, September 13, 2013 (9/16/13) I won't forget what a GREAT fellow he was. Bob built a Starduster-I to honor his son Mike who was KIA in VietNam. A 2nd son, Dennis, was also killed in that awful place. Bill Watkins bought the Starduster from Bob. Frontier folks will remember the exciting flight Bob had one dark night in the Frontier Beech 99 when the entire right engine separated from the aircraft near Greeley, Colorado. Apparently, a prop failed with a piece of a propeller blade shooting thru the fuselage missing Skip Pennyweight's foot by barely an inch before exiting on the left side and clipping the propeller on the #1 engine. Cooly, Bob procedurally asked "...did it feather?" "It's gone!" replied Skip. I would imagine Bob did a double-take. Fortunately, the nacelle frontal area is relatively small. So, even though there was considerable drag, Bob was able to make it into DEN with no injuries to anyone on board. -Billy Walker (9/16/13) I thought of him when we were trading old crew stories.. I didn't share it then but I will now. I remember we had a mechanincal on the 737, I think in Salina. They sent mechanics down and we all stood by. The problem could only be fully corrected by ferrying the plane to Denver for further maintenance.. Bob, his copilot were to ferry it in..and me.. which he legally shouldn't have done.. anyway I loved hearing his stories of his airplane acrobatics he performed at airshows on his off days. We reached a cruzing altitude, I brought up 3 coffees and we listened to more stories, Bob was explaining to us the strengths of the airplane we were on.. After the visit I left the cockpit to spruce up the cabin, pick up papers etc.. before we got to Denver. All of sudden Bob came over the PA and told me to sit down and strap in.. the Aviator proceeded to "roll" the 737. It is one of my fondest memories, truly. I never doubted the skillset of the pilots I flew with and he was one of the best. -Barbara Womack (9/17/13) I can remember Bob getting off an airplane in Ft.Smith with a Halloween mask on. He was the captain. -Bill Guthrie (9/18/13) B E LUKOW, ALPA # 0230805 DOB 03/04/30 DOH 01/01/63 (error - should be 8/3/63) IA 03/31/87 Per the FL/ALPA Roster. Fun kind of guy. -Larry Harms (9/19/13) First met him in HSI -Don Porter (9/19/13) Bob and I started about the same time at FAL. I moved to Florida because of him living here first. For boating more than anything. I had lost track of him the last year or so. Have a happy journey WEST my Friend. -Ken Larason (9/20/13) Before Bob flew for FL he flew for Forke Bros. Auctioneers flying a DC-3 out of LNK. I remember the days he would come into the coffee shop to fill up the coffee urns for the flight. Always a very agreeable nice guy and incidently he met his future wife there. She was one of our nicest and very cute waitresses there. Sorry to hear of his passing. -Jeff Mills (BIS-LNK) (10/11/13) Ronald Caraway Bob Lukow was a great pilot and friend (10/16/20)
