BOB LOCKETT 1951 - 1980 PILOT, CHIEF PILOT, REGIONAL DIRECTOR-FLIGHT OPERATIONS AMA OKC FTW MKC MCI I was leafing through the Obituary page today and although I can't supply any specific date info, on many of the pilots listed there is no info at all. My memory is far from perfect but I thought I'd pass along what I remember about some of these guys. Bob Lockett: Bob was a real "character" while he was a line pilot at CEN and didn't change any when he became Chief Pilot at the Kansas City base. I nicknamed him "Pierre" because of the loud and boisterous manner in which he always operated. One thing about having Bob as Chief Pilot, I don't think anyone could pull any stunts or boners that he hadn't pulled some time before! Bob had heart problems and died of a heart attack at age 54. -H.A. "Frosty" Frost (11/26/99) That was super of Frosty to have gone through the names to recall some tidbits about some of the fellows who have Flown West. I will add a couple of comments to those pilots Frosty listed that I recall something special about. On the (unfortunately) long list, I will try to do that another time. "I was one of Lockett's Rockets in Kansas City. He certainly was a character. I worked with him when he was the ALPA Safety Chairman and liked him a whole lot better in that capacity than when he became Chief Pilot." -Billy Walker (11/26/99) Bob gave me my IOE when I checked out as CV-580 Captain on April 2, 1976. He flew F/O for me for 13 hours until I was released to the line. Not one I'd care to have in my right seat, but it was necessary. He's probably raising the roof in that heavenly hangar (I hope he's UP there). Probably has driven St. Peter up the wall several thousand times by now, but maybe we DO moderate up there when we get the REAL view of the program. -Clyde Hart (11/26/99) R.J. Lockett, former Regional Director of Flight Operations, Kansas City Domicile, passed away Sunday, August 1, 1982 of a heart attack. His funeral will be held at the Mt. Moriah Funeral Home, I-69 Highway and 108th St. Kansas City, MO at 2:00 on Tuesday, August 3, 1982. Correction to previous memo: The date and time for the funeral for R.J. Lockett has been changed to Wednesday, August 4, 1982 at 11:00 a.m. The address remains the same. R.J. Orr Vice President Flight Operations -Memo sent by Ken Schultz (3/30/00) Bob retired in 1980 with 29 years per the October 1980 FL NEWS. -Jake Lamkins (11/28/04) ROBERT LOCKETT Born 21 Jan 1922 Died Aug 1982 Age 60 At 64108 (Kansas City, Jackson, MO) SSN issued in Texas Nothing listed under Robert J. or R.J. Lockett in Aug82. -SSDI (5/6/05) Frosty or Dick ... can you help Jake with some of the answers about Lockett? Dick Kardell sent me the photo ..... -Phil Stallings (5/8/05) Bob was ex-CEN and was based at AMA , OKC & FTW before MKC. I believe he was originally from Shawnee OK and was an Air Force veteran of WW II. He came to MKC when the AMA base was closed in the early 60's. Sam Terry was the original MKC Chief and Bob took over when Sam went back to Trans-America after the Axico strike was settled. I couldn't guess how long he was chief at MKC. Warren Mclellan was in his seniority group and might be able to give you more info. -Frosty Frost (5/9/05) Frosty: Bob Locket moved to KC in June of 1965. That is the same time I moved to KC, and that was when AMA was closed as a crew base. I really do not know much about his history. I know that in AMA he was flying or training in helicopters and that did not last long. Bob and I went to DEN for 737 training in 1975. I think he remained in KC until his death, maybe 1976. I moved to FSM and commuted to DEN until I retired in 1981. The only time I was back in KC was to attend Bob's memorial service. No date! -Warren McLellan (5/9/05) Just wanted to say "hi" to all Daddy's friends and wish you well. I love reading the stories, and finding the pics of Dad were very heart warming. Thank all you for for what you did and are doing. Aviation, specifically the airlines, played a KEY part in making this country the greatest in the world. Please feel free to drop me an E-mail or give me a call. I'm in the KC phone book. All the best across the miles... -Bob Lockett III (12/15/07) R J LOCKETT JR Pilot seniority date of 8/1/51 per the 9/1/72 FL/ALPA seniority list -Jake Lamkins (3/3/08)
