Please send remembrances to be read at the service to wvance100@hotmail.com Bill was born at home in north Fort Worth to V.A. Vance and Zula Vance on March 11, 1923. His lifelong passions were flying, live theater and his one true love, his wife and constant supporter, Lee Vance. At a very young age he wanted to fly and spent his working life in the Air Force flying jet fighters and in commercial aviation flying for Central Airlines and Frontier Airlines. Prior to returning to the Air Force and flying, he had also pursued the theater with several years of graduate study under the renowned Paul Baker at Baylor University in the late 1940s. After retirement 30 years ago, he again followed this love of theater by first acting in, then writing and producing a large body of religious drama for the Methodist Church. His most famous production was a one-man presentation in the character of John Wesley, founder of the Methodist Church. In the person of John Wesley returned to present day, he would speak to the modern condition from the perspective of a wise and reflective religious leader. He and Lee traveled to most of the states in the U.S. and to London, England, with variations of this presentation. To all he met, he was unforgettable, whether it was delivering his divinity candy at Christmas in red and green costume, waxing eloquently as John Wesley or being the congenial and helpful friend or coworker. Survivors: His children and their families, William S. Jr. of Fort Worth, his wife, Donna Marie, and his children, Megan Lee Cason, Travis Anderson Vance and Emily Elizabeth Vance; Kathryn Lee Pennington of Southlake and her husband, Gary Pennington; and David Zue, who lives in Singapore with his wife, Vivian Lee, and their daughter, Anna Lee Vance. Published in Star-Telegram from July 4 to July 6, 2012 -Phil Stallings (7/6/12) I recall one night in FYV when Bill's MKC flight had departed. When he called in his times, our inbound STL flight said, "Why don't you play them a tune, Bill?" Shortly afterwards a short version of Foggy Mountain Breakdown came blasting from the radio. Bill always had his mandolin with him in those days. He was a very likeable and personable person. -Jake Lamkins (7/6/12) Posted at FLacebook and the FL Club: GSW DAL DFW pilot Bill Vance's memorial webpage is posted. http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Bill_Vance.html Post your remembrances of Bill. -Jake Lamkins (7/12/12) Posted at Legacy.com Bill is remembered fondly by his many friends at Central Airlines and the old Frontier Airlines: http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Bill_Vance.html -Jake Lamkins (6/28/23)
