BILL THIETS 1958 - 1963 / 1973 - 1986 STATION AGENT RWL HSI DEN Greetings. By way of introduction my name is Bill Thiets. I first started with FAL in 1958 in RWL working for George Hobbs. From there I went to HSI in March of 1959 to work for Royal Burt in his first city. I ended up in DEN in April of 1960. Cal Reese was my Station Manager at that time. I left FAL in May of 1963 and returned in Oct of 1973 until the doors closed in 1986. As I type this E-Mail, I am sitting in our home office and I look at the DC3 model of old 385 and the 737 model, number 341, and lots of good thoughts return to me. I can be reached at OKpapabear@aol.com or 918-523-8334. -Bill Thiets (3/3/03) I don't know if you knew but I married Mary Ellen Mann who worked in Revenue Accounting. We spent a little time with Sandy Bambi and Butch and communicated through Christmas Cards and so forth. But as things happen we lost contact with them several years back. Do you happen to have any knowledge of an address for Sandy. She was a great person and a favorite of ours. We continue to work but at 65, me, in January and now drawing SS, don't know how much longer this job will be a focus of mine. The current unrest in the world as it pertains to the US has some bearing on my decision and when things settle down I'll probably call it a day. Mary Ellen retired from American in 1988 and then consulted for several years. She works for Great Plains Airlines here in Tulsa and just having a great time with a new start up carrier. -Bill Thiets (3/4/03) Thanks to you for all the stories you've gathered from our brothers and sisters over the years. Just great reading. I was thinking about how I could best put the unheard of (in the world we live in today) respect, devotion and love we had for the FAL nameplate. The best I could come up with was, it was like our "first love" --- never to be forgotten. I doubt this feeling will ever be matched again, anywhere! When all was said and done, it was a great ride with a great group of folks. Thanks again for all you do for all of us. -Bill Thiets (4/15/03) A voice from the past. We were in class headed up by a gentleman named Jerry (something) back in the fall of 1958 in DEN. If I remember correctly you headed north after leaving Frontier. I last spoke with Roger Lienau about 4/5 years back. He was considering or had retired at that time. He originally went to CYS and sometime later transferred to MSO.I left FAL: in 1963 and went back in 1974 until the closing. I met and married my new wife , she was Director of Revenue Accounting, in 82. She received a job offer from AA after the close down in 86. We moved to Tulsa in 1987 where we still reside. I'm with Thrifty Car Rental in our World Wide HdQtrs. Retirement is coming this year, but at 66 I still don't know if I'm ready. I'm good at my job and have a great amount of fun going to the office each day. -Bill Thiets (2/15/04) Enclosed is my check for $20.00 for the upcoming year and a gift subscription for Jewel Davis in Wichita, Kansas Jewel Davis and I spent a lot of time together working in the “Freight Shack” in Denver back in the early mid-seventies. I truly enjoy the news letter. Everything comes to a complete stop in our home when the paper arrives. I read it cover to cover. Your efforts to get “the story” from Hank Lund is appreciated. The summer issue with his first installments are anticipated. I hope it will answer the many questions which remain a mystery after all these years. -Bill Thiets, Tulsa OK (5/17/04) I retired from Thrifty Car Rental on June 30 this year after 17 plus years. I still have days when I wonder what the hell I'm supposed to do next but over all it's a grand thing. Best regards. -Bill Thiets (8/2/04) Carol Davenport worked in accounting with my wife Mary Ellen. She died of a heart attack Dec. 21, 2005. She was at the 8250 Smith Road building by the Airport Village Inn. Mary Ellen's child was married to Carol's child.) -Bill Thiets (1/10/06) I had a stroke in February. That was an eye opener. I got real close to humility. At 68 it took me 8 to 10 days to grasp the concept of walking by putting one foot in front of another and about 8 weeks before I was able to put the cane away. A few concerns (left hand) linger but, in general life is GREAT. -Bill Thiets (6/23/06) I'm sorry to hear about your health problems. My dad, who's 87, has two things to say about old age. "It ain't gonna get any better" and "Getting old ain't for sissies." One of the main reasons for my getting downsized and into town was wanting to be prepared for the inevitable diminishment of abilities. Every day is a gift and I try to enjoy them to the fullest. -Jake Lamkins (6/23/06) Hello Jim Meade, Welcome to the club. It's nice to see your name in here and think back to Hanger 5, you, Jim Bogan and the good times at FAL..Remember the Quality Circles? A special note to Mary Robertson. We lost touch years back. I'd like to catch up with you and hear about those grandkids. To both! A nice way to start a Friday morning. -Bill Thiets (6/15/07) It is with great sorrow that I tell you that Bill passed away on Christmas Eve. It was very sudden. I think that Bill has paid his money for the newsletter and I would like to continue to receive it since I am also a former Frontier employee. I was the Director of Revenue Accounting. Thank you for all you do. -Mary Ellen Thiets (1/2/09) Mary Ellen Thiets 67 Tulsa, OK Bill E Thiets 70 Tulsa, OK -Intelius.com (1/2/09) Posted at the FL Club RWL HSI DEN station agent Bill Thiets has died Bill worked 1958 - 1963 / 1973 - 1986 Post any additional info you have about Bill.
