I was honored to be his F/O on his retirement flight(s)! One of my all-time favorite "flying stories" was when he was descending into SLC and asked me to "fly it". He unbuckled his seatbelt, stood in the jumpseat area of the cockpit, and changed out of his black uniform into his FRONTIER BLUE Captain's uniform!!! (5/24/17) FLacebook Jake, I sent you payment for the newsletter last week inside a old book, did you get it? -Al Kendell (12/20/17) Hello Al, Yes, I got your check and delightful package of goodies yesterday. He loved his FLamily, he was an amazing Pilot, friend and most of all a super dad. Frontier was a big part of his life and loved all of you. Blue Sky's and tail winds Dad, you're the best! Jake Lamkins Just when I think I've hardened my heart to all our FLights West (28 since the last FL News) along comes one which stabs my heart. Last night about the time Al flew west I was rearranging some of my Frontier aircraft models. One of them is a 1/400 scale FL 727 which showed up in the mail a few years ago. There was Al's business card in it with a sticky note saying THANKS. People ask me why I spend so much time with a dead airline. I reply, "You wouldn't understand unless you had been there." Al Kendell personified what the FLamily means. My sincerest condolences to Scott, Marilyn and family. Kim McCaleb Austin I'm truly sorry to hear. May ur dad soar with the Angels! Al was flying west last night about the time I was moving the 727 model he sent me. So, if he was flying Frontier as Scott says, I am sure he was piloting a Frontier 727. Life is full of strange things, isn't it? Scott Kendell He never flew the 727 to my knowledge, but my bet he was on a DC3, he was a bit slow leaving the gate but took that final flight in style, he nearly had as many hours as Bill McCrystal the DC-3 world record holder. After WWII he got his first job as a first officer for Hawaiian Airlines in Honolulu on the DC3. Trish Swanson-Hawk Prayers for his family and many friends Buck Hawk So sorry to hear about Al. Janice Gassett What a great Captain. I remember him well. I'm so sad for your family and our Frontier Family. Mike White We had so many great flight crews!
