A.V. SMITH 1962 - 1986 AIRCRAFT MECHANIC FSM LIT OKC Pull up the obits for the Morning News. There is one for Alton V. Smith. He lived at Huntsville but it is also stated that he was a acft mech for AA, CN and FL. Do we remember him. -Ken Stewart (6/26/07) Posted at the FL Club: Mechanic Afton Smith has died Ken Stewart brought this obituary to my attention. http://www.nwanews.com/nwat/obits/54471 Does anyone have more info on Afton? -Jake Lamkins (6/27/07) A. V. worked in LIT, FSM I think. Fred Perry might know more he was A. V.'s supervisor in LIT. -Buddy Griffin (6/28/07) Did he go by "Smitty"? It seems that I recall a mech called Smitty occasionally coming to FYV when we had a problem with acft there. -Ken Stewart (6/27/07) I think sometime he did, But mostly by AV. -Buddy Griffin (6/28/07) I think I worked with AV in FSM in 1965 / 1966. We were a maintenance base for the CV240's and DC3's. He was also there when the CV600 Darts came online. -Jim Meade (6/28/07) Yes, AV worked in OKC also....with Kirby and bunch.... ask Hilderbrand, he knows....AV was a character... . -Gary Mackie (6/28/07) A.V. Smith started to work for Central Air Lines May 8, 1962 and worked as a mechanic at OKC, LIT and FSM. -Ken Schultz (6/30/07) I have not been able to determine when A.V. left FL. -Jake Lamkins (8/27/10) I stumbled across a document from the Frontier site regarding my grandfather Afton V Smith, who passed away in 2007. If you have any old photos of him during his time at Frontier I'd love to see them. It was neat to read what you guys posted about what you remember about him. He did go by AV and some might have called him Smitty but he didn't like that nickname at all. Haha! -Jana M Hardage (9/6/14) Hi Jana, Sorry, I think I missed your message. Thanks so much for your note. The only thing I have on AV is this May 1965 item. His webpage is at http://FAL-1.tripod.com/AV_Smith.html -Jake Lamkins (1/11/15) A V SMITH Seniority date of 5/8/62 MED on the Nov 1974, Nov 1976, Nov 1980 and May 1986 FL/IAM seniority lists. Do not know how he could be on MED for 12 years. -Jake Lamkins (1/6/17) FLacebook - FL News FLight West: A. V. Smith FSM LIT OKC aircraft mechanic A. V. Smith's memorial webpage has been updated at http://FAL-1.tripod.com/AV_Smith.html Several items added but still need a photo of A. V. -Jake Lamkins (1/7/17) A. V. was one of the first mechanics at FSM. Super, Super nice guy and one hell of a mechanic. Seems like a health poblem caused him to take early retirement. -Keith Sturgeon (1/7/17)
