NANCY HEDRICK MITCHELL 1972 - 1976 SECRETARY, CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE, ASSISTANT STATION MANAGER MKC MCI MARRIED TO ATL STATION MANAGER MICKEY MITCHELL All of you worked MKC/MCI at some time, as I recall. Yesterday I had a call from a friend that Mickey Mitchell's wife, Nancy, had died the day or so before. Mickey worked many years in KC and I believe his wife had been a FL secretary there. Bob Stine thinks it may have been Nancy Hendrix, Hendricks, Headrick or something like that. Do any of you remember Nancy, her last name and what position she held with FL? Thanks for any help. -Jake Lamkins (8/24/00) Sad news - Nancy Hedrick (Hedrick was her maiden name as I recall) was indeed a secretary at MCI in the early 70's. She was a very fine person and loved very much by Mickey. She was promoted to Asst. Mgr MCI Station the same position Mickey held at the time. They had a romance without the knowledge of anyone in the station and one day announced their marriage. I later served as C/M in COS when Mickey was C/M in PUB. We often made sales calls together in the PUB/Canon City area and I knew them both well. In later years (82/83) Mickey and Nancy lived in ATL. I saw Mickey in the station when I visited from the DEN GO. He was the ATL C/M and later an agent and Nancy was a F/A for US AIR. At about 1990 I went to ATL to do the press conference on behalf of AWA's ATL opening and Mickey and I had breakfast together. At the time Mickey was working for Home depot after having just sold their retail packing store and Nancy was still with US AIR. Jake - Where did you hear the news from? Do you know any details of the event? I just checked my ledger and dialed the number I have on file for their residence and received a voice message with Mickey's voice. If anyone would like the number please let me know. -Frank Schubert (8/24/00) Thanks for the information, Frank. Rodger Garner, longtime freight forwarder & delivery agent at FYV, married Mickey's sister Carla a few years ago. Rodger called me to say he wouldn't make the FYV FSM FL Reunion this weekend because of Nancy's death. He didn't have any details. They were leaving tomorrow for Hannibal. -Jake Lamkins (8/24/00) Nancy loved to do counted cross stitch. You could also put that Nancy loved her dogs. Oliver and Stanley who are in heaven with her, and Otis and Rags who is taking care of Mickey now!!! Carla Mitchell Garner (11/7/00) Carla is Mickey Mitchell's sister and sent the photo and obituary for Nancy. The photo was taken in 1992 on the 50th wedding anniversary of Mickey & Carla's parents; Mr. & Mrs. Carl Mitchell. I wonder where Carla got her name? -Jake Lamkins (11/8/00) Pursant to your request for information regarding Nancy's Frontier Career: 1972 - started in MCI as Secretary for Manager Transportation Services (1st-Ed Dunaway & then Jim Moore) 1972 - Promoted to CSR-MCI. 1974 - Promoted to Assistant Manager Transportation Services-MCI over Customer Service. 1976 - Resigned from FL and married Mickey Mitchell & moved with him to Pueblo, CO. Later that year she became a CSR. Then in 1974 she was promoted to Asst Manager at MCI and held that position until she resigned in 1976. She married Mickey Mitchell, another MCI Asst. Manager, and they moved to PUB where Mickey became FL City Manager. Nancy moved to ATL in 1980 when Mickey became City Manager there and started to work for PI as a secretary in the FA department. She became a flight attendant for PI in 1984 then subsequently with USAir when they bought PI. She continued flying until July 2000. She had a slight stroke in 1998 and the medication she began taking had an adverse effect on her liver.
