WALKER COLLINS 1966 - 1986 STATION AGENT, STATION MANAGER, TICKET COUNTER AGENT FYV PNC SLC FSM DEN Good to hear that you are enjoying your freedom...Doing well here... Doc changed my med last time I was in Dallas... Not so weak and shaky as before. -Walker Collins (3/27/06) Hang in there! My dad's right when he says getting old ain't for sissies. He's 86 now and got into a fight this last weekend at his nursing home. It's the 3rd incident since he's been there so he may get tossed out. I hope I have that much piss and vinegar in me 20 years from now. -Jake Lamkins (3/27/06) Reminds me of one of my older brothers who is 85 and still runs his cattle farm over at Huntsville. He does 100 pushups and 100 sit-ups every day. He also has a small nip of homemade wine just about every day. My doc.. at Baylor recommended that I drink a glass of wine every day. I am trying to follow his advice. ha -Walker Collins (3/27/06) Old FARTS meeting next Thursday, 1pm. Be there or we'll talk about you. -Jake Lamkins (7/20/06) I shall surely be there to defend my good name. I checked with Paul and he said that Floyd would be welcome... So I am bringing him too. Floyd and I were "joined at the hip" until I went to the army. He is one of the reasons I moved to Fayetteville. -Walker Collins (7/20/06) Posted at the FL Club Walker Collins is in intensive care. Walker was a station agent, station managerand TCA at FYV FSM PNC SLC 1966-86. He's had lots of medical problems the past few years and is in bad shape. Go to http://www.wregiona l.com/body. cfm?id=268 and email him get well wishes. Thanks, -Jake Lamkins (5/23/07) I was going to send you a message about Walker, but I see you already know. I went to see him last night. He seemed to know me. He would nod yes or no to my questions. -J.C. Selph (5/24/07) Walker's nephew had called J. C. and we went up to the hospital last night. He spoke of emailing you, but I guess he must have forgotten it after we came home. We learned from the nurse that was with him that they believed the results from the heart cath that was done earlier had turned out pretty good. -Sharon Selph (5/24/07) Email to hospital: Hey Walker, I was going to visit you but the desk said you can only have a few visitors so I will wait til you get out of ICU and in a room. Hope this finds you rapidly recovering, ol' buddy. -Jake Lamkins (5/25/07) You have probably heard from Walker again by now, but I learned last night from one of his relatives that he did in fact have a heart attack, has congestive heart failure, and also something going on with one of his lungs. I sure do hate to hear this. It seems he's had more than his share of sickness. -Sharon Selph (5/25/07) I stopped by the hospital Friday evening, to visit with Walker. His wife said he was doing better. He was not able to talk due to the tubes in his mouth. -Dave Hency (5/28/07) We had our monthly Old FARTS meeting today. It was Rod Downey, Pau Farris and me. Great visit talking about the old times at Frontier. Afterwards we visited Walker Collins at the hospital. He has a virus of the heart problem similar to mine 14 years ago. He is recuperating and hopes to go home in a week. -Jake Lamkins (5/29/07) Went by to see Walker this morning. He was asleep. I left note on the notebook that is there. He seemed to be sleeping peacefully. -Ken Stewart (6/4/07) Walker is in room 104, just up the first hall on the right of the main entrance, very close to the entrance. By the way, he is in the rehab hosp (think it is called North Hills) not the one on the street into WRMC. -Ken Stewart (6/5/07) I guess Walker took a turn for the worse. They have moved him back to WRMC. That's all I know for now. I'll keep you posted as I hear anything more. -Paul Farris (6/5/07) Paul phoned a few minutes ago. He had gotten a phone call from Walker's brother Floyd who said Walker has taken a turn for the worse, is in ICU at Washington Regional and they have called the family in. It looks bad right now. -Jake Lamkins (6/6/07) I just went by to see Walker at WRMC, he is in Room 2313, CCU. I did not get to visit as they were doing what looked like some x-rays, etc. -Ken Stewart (6/6/07) No, it doesn't sound good. I understand he started bleeding badly. I sure hate this and had believed he was going to get better. -Sharon Selph (6/7/07) I visited with Walker about 0900 this morning. He was alert and communicating well. He had an extremely bad day yesterday. I did not stay long as three of his bros were in the room and he is still in CCU 2313. Hospital staff is trying to let him rest as much as possible today. -Ken Stewart (6/7/07) Walker was moved from ICU/CCU to a regular room and I understand he was talking and laughing. His brother said the doctor says it wasn't cancer. We're so happy. -Sharon Selph (6/9/07) I visited with Walker briefly Sat afternoon. He was tired and trying to settle down so I did not stay long. If anyone goes to visit him and finds him asleep, there is a spiral notebook usually located on the table in the room for signing and leaving any messages. I have not been up there since Sat but, at that time, he was still in Room 2313 of CCU. Visiting in CCU is very limited as to time. -Ken Stewart (6/12/07) Paul phoned and said we had lost Walker. Donna called him and said Walker had started bleeding internally and passed away as they started operating on him. -Jake Lamkins (6/23/07) Email to FYV FSM e-list Paul Farris just phoned me. Walker's brother, Floyd, had just called to tell him that Walker passed away this morning. More info on arrangements when I get them. -Jake Lamkins (6/23/07) Posted at the FL Club: Walker Collins died this morning He had been in bad health for quite awhile. Walker was a station agent, station manager and TCA at FYV PNC SLC FSM DEN 1965-86. Info on arrangements when I get them. -Jake Lamkins (6/23/07) Yes, we heard. I guess when we know that a person just can't get much better or well it's a blessing for them to go on. It's still so hard for the family and friends though, because we all tend to be selfish and want to keep them. -Sharon Selph (6/23/07) Thanks for the info re Walker. Glad that I was able to visit with him for a while Wed morning. He has really had a bad time of it, but is now at peace. -Ken Stewart (6/23/07) Looks like Backstrom-Pyeatte funeral home is handling Walker"s funeral. It's in Springdale. There should be more details in tomorrow's paper. Paul Farris (6/24/07) Thanks, Paul, I'll watch the paper. Should we still have an Old Farts meeting if it's Tuesday. Maybe as a memorial? -Jake Lamkins (6/24/07) So sorry to hear the sad news about Walker. -Don Enos (6/24/07) I just talked to Floyd Collins. Walker's funeral will be Wednesday. They are still waiting to hear from the National Cemetery. The obit will be in Tuesday's paper. Guess we can do an old FARTS tomorrow. A memorial one would be great. -Paul Farris (6/25/07) W W COLLINS Seniority date of 10/2/66, emp# 01522, on the 7/1/84 FL/ALEA seniority list -Jake Lamkins (6/26/07) Just got a call from Floyd, he says the funeral will be at Backstrom-Pyeatte funeral home in Springdale at 1100am Wednesday with burial at the National Cemetery at 200pm. I tried to notify Ken Baker but there was no answer. Will keep trying. -Paul Farris (6/25/07) Walker Collins, my friend for 42 years, died on June 23rd. He was 65 and had often bragged over the years about his dad living to be 101 and that he would live a long time too. His funeral was today and his widow, Donna, greeted me as a long lost friend and introduced me to all her children. It got very emotional and tears ran down into my beard. I had not seen Donna for several decades. I wore my Frontier tie for the occasion. As the ceremony started there were sirens galore from nearby 6th Street and then a plane flew over. In the overcast it could not be seen - we laughingly said that is the Frontier fly-by. Then there was a three gun salute so Walker had sirens, gunshots and a fly-by for his funeral. I'm sure he's bragging about it right now. I was honored to be shown on the burial note as an honorary pallbearer. Other FLolks attending his services were Richard Horn, Johnny Selph, Ken Baker, Paul Farris and Ken Stewart. -Jake Lamkins (6/27/07) Nice to see you and Paul today. I know that Walker would have appreciated our attendance. I also appreciated Donna allowing us to honor our friend by being designated honorary pallbearers. -Ken Stewart (6/27/07) Dear Jake, I met you at Walker's funeral. I had heard Walker talk about you so often. I just wanted to say THANKS for the web page you did for him, IT IS SO NICE. We sure do miss him. He was at my house almost ever evening to play DOMINO with my husband, he lives just around the corner from me, -Susie Atchley (7/10/07) Hi Susie, Thank you for your note about Walker's webpage. I really believe a person is not dead until we forget them. The webpage is just my little part to preserve Walker's memory. He was a remarkable person. His bravery and determination in his last years will always be with me. -Jake Lamkins (7/10/07) FLacebook - FL Club FYV PNC SLC FSM DEN station agent Walker Collins' memorial webpage has been updated: http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Walker_Collins.html A lot of memories flooded my mind while doing this because Walker was my friend for 42 years. -Jake Lamkins (5/24/15)
