VIRGINIA SHACKLETT 1968 - 1975, 1980 - 1982? SECRETARY, EXECUTIVE SECRETARY DEN My mom's name is Virginia Shacklett ... she was a secretary for one of the VPs in Denver. Mom & I both have airline blood. When she was in her 60s (in the 80s) she worked as a part-time sec'y for AA in DEN for $5/hr, but she got all the passes she wanted. .... I worked for UAL (DENRR & DENSW & ORDSW) in the late 60s to '70 .... then married a UAL pilot in '81 (he died in '89 of cancer). ... Then a brief stint with America West in SAN. Now I work as an admin. asst for Western Skyways in Montrose, CO (we rebuild piston engines). My beautiful work area is next to several floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the runway--an old stew's dream job!! -Jayne Shacklett Weaver (10/8/03) My mom worked at FL from '68-75 and started again in '80 for a short time. ... I remember the good old days when FL gave the UAL stews $5 RT standby passes. My roommate & I would go from DEN-LAS if we had nothing better to do on a certain day. Usually didn't have the $ for a hotel room--stayed by a pool one night & dozed in the lounge chairs! My mom would love to have a newsletter! -Jayne Shacklett Weaver (10/12/03) Thank you so much for sending the Frontier News. My daughter told me that you'd contacted her about the dinner ware, and had a nice talk. It's so exciting to see letters from former employees, and before long I'll send a letter about my history at Frontier. I loved working for Frontier. I recently went to ABQ and everything was first class, A-1. Love the new AirBus and the personnel at DIA. I'm getting a subscription check in the mail so I won't miss an issue of FL News. -Virginia Shacklett (10/21/03) Virginia Shacklett Another Flamily gone West. Terrific gal, loved to laugh and have a good time and make others laugh with her. Think she worked in Finance and Legal. Don't know her dates of employment, but after working full time, she worked part time for a lot of years. -Jeanne Hanson (8/27/08) Dear Family and Friends, I am sad to tell you that Mom passed away quietly yesterday afternoon. Below is a message from Jayne, who was at Mom's bedside. I had hoped to be in Montrose to spend a little time with Mom before she passed away, but that wasn't to be. I was able to speak to Mom on the phone, even though she was unable to answer. Jayne was convinced that Mom was still hearing, even in her final minutes. As planned earlier, I will be going to Montrose tomorrow (Thursday), but will miss not being able to spend time with Mom. She will be greatly missed. Love, Jan Shacklett (8/27/08) Dear Family and Friends, Just a note to let you know that Mom died peacefully at 5:20 this evening. My good friend Lori and I went to see her today on our lunch hour, and she looked worse to me than she did yesterday. When we got back to work I called the Hospice nurse, who arrived at Mom's an hour later. She called me and said Mom might have a couple of hours to live but that it was hard to say for sure. Lori and I went right over and sat with her for exactly two hours, when she died. For the last half hour I read her the essays about her life that she had written about six years ago-- memories of her mother and father, childhood memories with her grandparents, stories about the bridge group she had such good times with, etc. I was able to tell her I love her and that she was not alone (something she always feared). Since she had so many wonderful memories of her days at Frontier and American, I told her to get on a big jet, sit in first class and enjoy a glass of wine or a cup of coffee, and that the pilot would take very good care of her. Watching Mom die is something I thought I could never bear to do, but it was a very spiritual experience that left me feeling very blessed for so many things. Mom moved to Montrose 11 months ago. My friend Lori did the driving when Mom made the move from Denver to Montrose, while I tried to ensure she was comfortable. Mom loved coming to see Bill and me at our house every Sunday and having her vanilla coffee before dinner and a diluted glass of wine with dinner. She was so happy to see Raquel [Jayne's daughter] and her 3 boys when they visited in July (pictures attached). Another blessing came this evening when I called Jannie, a 23-year old nursing student (whose family I've known for almost 10 years) who we hired a few months ago to come in on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 9 to keep Mom company and help her get ready for bed. I told Jannie of Mom's passing, and she told me that she recently talked to the administrator at Sunrise Creek about getting a job there (she goes to school part-time). She told him she only wanted to work in the Memory Care unit where Mom lived because she got to know & love the people there (there were only 12 people in Mom's unit). Tony (the administrator) told her she has a job when she is ready. I know Mom would love knowing she made a difference in Jannie's life. Jannie certainly made a difference in hers (her picture is attached). She is getting married Sept. 6, and Mom was delighted that she got to meet her handsome fiancé. Today was a beautiful late summer day. Mom was ready to leave this earth, and I feel peace in my heart. Love to all, -Jayne Shacklett Weaver (8/26/08) VIRGINIA SHACKLETT DENAB Finance Executive Secretary Per the 1/1/70 FL Telephone Directory DENGL Legal Dept Secretary Per the Dec 80 & Jan 82 FL Quick Reference Directories.
