RUTH AGNEW 1958 - 1963 FLIGHT ATTENDANT SLC I have attached an obit from the SLC paper about Ruth Ann McDonough. Roger Borchard and Al think she is the former Ruth Agnew who flew for FL back in the late 50's or early 60's out of SLC. I tried to verify that she was the former FL stew from the mortuary but they said they could only give me a confirmation on the info in the article itself. Maybe if you put it on the website, someone else who knew her could confirm. -Dee Martenson (8/15/04) Thanks, Dee. I'll see what I can find out. -Jake Lamkins (8/15/04) Posted at the FL Club: Need confirmation of death Dee Martenson emailed, "I have attached an obit from the SLC paper about Ruth Ann McDonough. See the obituary at http://DENFL.tripod.com/Ruth_Agnew_McDonoughObit.jpg Please post any info you have. -Jake Lamkins (8/15/04) THERE WAS A NOTICE OF THE DEATH OF RUTH AGNEW IN THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE SOME TIME AGO. I'M NOT SURE OF THE TIME, BUT SHE DID FLY OUT OF SALT LAKE. I KNOW SHE FLEW DURING THE DC-3 PERIOD AND I THINK WHEN THE 340'S WERE OPERATING. SHE LEFT FRONTIER AND WORKED FOR A WHILE FOR UNITED AT THEIR RESERVATION COUNTER ON THE HOTEL UTAH IN SALT LAKE. THAT'S ALL I CAN RECALL ABOUT RUTH. AN EXCELLENT FLIGHT ATTENDANT. -JACK SCHADE (8/15/04) I BELIEVE RUTH DIED AT LEAST A YEAR AGO. I THINK ABOUT THE TIME WE WERE FLYING THE 340S SHE LEFT FRONTIER AND WENT TO WORK FOR UNITED AS A RES AGENT. UNITED HAD A TICKET COUNTER IN THE HOTEL UTAH AND I VISITED WITH HER WHEN ALENE AND I HAD LUNCH AT THE CAFE. HOTEL UTAH CHANGED FROM A HOTEL TO BECOME PART OF THE CHURCH OFFICES. THAT'S ALL I KNOW OF HER LIFE AFTER THAT, BUT I DO REMEMBER READING HER OBIT. -JACK SCHADE (8/17/04) The Oct. FL News reported an Obituary for Ruth Agnew. I located a listing of R. A. Agnew, 1833 Hubbard Ave., Salt Lake City, UT., Stew, EM 3 2507, in a 1959 Frontier personnel list. -Ken Schultz (10/27/04) Thanks, Ken. I haven't been able to verify what her married name was. I checked the SSDI but there were no Utah Ruth Agnews listed. -Jake Lamkins (10/28/04) I've checked with several friends who also have genealogy as a hobby and inquired about the SSDI information or lack of information available on several genealogical web sites. The status of the Roots.com SSDI info is that it has not been updated since January since they have been taken over by Ancestry.com. It is unknown when / or if Ancestory will update the Roots site. Ancestry.com is one of the largest genealogical sites and their SSDI info is updated monthly, but you have to join in order to access most of their sites. I have not deciced whether or not to join them at this point, since I have located two libraries that joined Ancestry.com, and make access to it available to the public. I also checked for a recent Ruth McDonough death ( there were no recent Ruth Agnew listings), and found the listing of : Ruth McDonough. Died: 16 June 2004. Born: 16 June 1937. Last Benefit: Bountiful, Utah. Last Residence: --same as the last benefit--. State SSN issued: Utah (1953). -Ken Schultz (10/29/04) Subject: Ruth Agnew McDonough I happened to pull up your website to see my friend Ruth in the obit column. This certainly surprised me. Ruth and I were good friends, we were in the same graduating class of '58. I flew out of DEN for awhile, then was transferred to SLC. While there, I lived with Ruth and her family on Hubbard St. Ruth married Tom McDonough and they lived in Bountiful for as long as we kept in touch. Over the years, I moved and lost contact with her. So it was with great surprise to see that she has passed away. If anyone has further info, please let me know. I would love to hear from them. -Lila (Twite) Hayes (11/10/04) Hi Lila, Thanks so much for the info on Ruth. You are the first one who connected Ruth to McDonough for sure. I had received an obituary from FA Dee Curl Martenson saying she thought Ruth McDonough was Ruth Agnew but she wasn't sure. So, you provided the proof I had been awaiting. The obituary follows: --------------------------------------------------- "Ruth Ann "Nana" McDonough Will Be Missed Bountiful- "Death is not extinguishing the light, it is putting out the Lamp because the Dawn has come." Ruth died of cancer July 11, 2004. This day she lives peacefully with the Lord. Ruth's family was her life. She deeply loved her husband Tom for 30 years; no more need be said. Tom preceded her in death in 1991. Her last words were to tell all her children that she loved them. She leaves her son, Tom and his wife Lisa of Ann Arbor, Michigan; daughter Michelle and her husband Chris of North Salt Lake; daughter Christine of Salt Lake City; and her grandchildren Vanessa, Abigail, Anthiny, Hannah, Daniel, and Jack - the joys and lights of her life. Her funeral mass will be held at St. Catherine of Siena (University of Utah Newman Center) 170 South University (1350 East) Salt Lake City, Friday, July 16, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will be from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. prior to the services. A celebration of life will follow the funeral at St. Catherine of Siena. Burial will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery the following morning at 10:00 a.m. Funeral Directors: Lindquist Bountiful Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Ruth's name to one of the following charities she volunteered for: Adopt-a-Native-Elder Program, Box 3401, Park City UT 84060, Salt Lake Interfaith Hospitality Network, 802 West 800 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84104." I'll send you a pic that came with the obituary. -Jake Lamkins (11/10/04) Posted at the FL Club 11/11/04 Sometime ago I posted news of the possible death of Ruth Agnew. The news needed firmed up by someone who knew whether she became Ruth McDonough after leaving FL. Based on Lila's email and the obituary, it appears that Ruth was a FL FA 1958-1961. -Jake Lamkins (11/11/04) I was particularly moved by the obituary of Ruth Agnew so I selected this excerpt from my memoir that mentions my first encounter with that wonderful lady and I'd like to pass it on. Working for an airline offered lots of travel opportunities so one of the first things I wanted to do was go somewhere I'd never been. Salt Lake City seemed like a good place so I got a pass and checked in for Frontier Flight # 12. It was a DC-3 aircraft that made a stop in Farmington and Grand Junction before arriving in Salt Lake City. I had already learned to take Dramamine tablets to control motion sickness. It was also helpful to sit over the wings. My colleagues suggested I board early to be assured of a good over-the-wing seat. I took their advice and while getting situated, the Captain came aboard. He was a remarkably friendly fellow who asked where I was going. I told him Salt Lake City and had boarded early because of the motion sickness problem. I was totally astonished at what he did. He went to some trouble to set up the portable "jump-seat" in the flight cabin behind the crew' seats where the motion would be less notable and I could see forward which would also help. That was the first time I ever saw Captain Jack Schade. Shortly thereafter, his Co-Pilot came aboard. He seemed to wear a perpetual grin and was just as friendly as the Captain. His name was Tex Searle. A few moments later, the stewardess boarded. Her name was Ruth Agnew, but everybody lovingly called her Ruthie. Our flight departed on schedule and after reaching cursing altitude, I got another surprise. If I had the good fortune to sit on the jump-seat, it would get even better when Co-Pilot Searle let me sit in his right-side seat while he and Ruthie made a few sandwiches in the small galley right behind the flight cabin. I took several pictures from the side cockpit window and also a few straight ahead catching an excellent panorama of the desert landscape below. That was the beginning of a wonderful friendship with those folks whom I always held in highest esteem. -Wayman (Mac) McElhaney, ABQ 1958-1985 (11/11/04) R. Agnew Flight attendant seniority date of 3/26/58 on the 11/18/61 FL/AFA seniority list. -Jake Lamkins (6/12/10) Nothing at FindAGrave.com. She is not on the 8/15/63 Sales & Service Personnel Roster. Cannot find her on the Feb 1960 FL Roster because the As are missing. I will presume she left Frontier in early 1963 until more info received. Do not know why there is a difference on her date of death between the SSDI and her obituary. -Jake Lamkins (4/8/13) Ruth Mcdonough: Social Security Death Index (SSDI) Death Record Name: Ruth Mcdonough State of Issue: Utah Date of Birth: Wednesday June 16, 1937 Date of Death: Wednesday June 16, 2004 Est.
