My name is Bob Washburn. I started with Central in AMA in 1960, worked there for a couple of years then transferred to LIT and was there for about 20 years. When FL pulled out of LIT I went to DEN and worked in the freight house until they went out of business. I recognized a lot of names in the FL NEWS but I can't put a face on them. On the other hand I can remember some faces that I can't associate a name to. I remember Ronnie Rogers and Keith Sturgeon as I lived with them in DEN. I didn't see Ronnie's name, is he still around? You may remember Leon Smith here in LIT. Last July he fell off a ladder and broke his leg. His leg got an infection, he was in the hospital for months and finally died around the middle of December. I had no idea there was a FL NEWS. Thanks for sending me a copy. Sincerely, -Bob Washburn (1/9/06) Hi Bob, Great hearing from you. I saw Keith Sturgeon last summer at the FYV-FSM FL Reunion. He was looking good and runs a pawnshop in FSM. Ron Rogers died of cancer May 12, 1998 at age 56. It was a tragedy. -Jake Lamkins (1/10/06) R F ROGERS Station agent seniority date of 10/31/66, emp# 07548, LOA, on the 1/1/86 FL/ALEA seniority list. I had known Ron longer than that because I worked for the city of FSM at the airport for 6 years prior to Frontier. He was a good friend. When I was to fly to Denver for my interview I needed some clothes suitable for the interview. Ron, without hesitation, loaned me the money I needed. When I tried to tell him when I could pay him back, he interrupted me and said he wasn't worried about the money and I should pay him back whenever I could. He was like that to a lot of people. He was really good to his FL buddies. -Joe Keys, FSM, MEM, OAK, MAF (10/26/09) Yes, Joe, he was that way with me also. I had just gone through a divorce and had to pay the lawyer 300 hundred dollars. I asked Ron to loan me the money and he pulled it out of his pocket and said pay me back whenever you can. He was one of a kind. -Paul Farris (10/26/09) Shirley Wade-Hayhurst - FLacebook Messenger on Aug 25, 2020 Who was the station agent that worked in Denver, returned to Fayetteville or Fort Smith, opened ice cream parlors and helped furloughed agents return home? Jake Lamkins Ron Rogers in FSM, opened pizza parlors, died young from cancer, great guy! http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Ron_Rogers.html Shirley Wade-Hayhurst He was one of the first investors into Walmart Stock. I learned a lot from him! We use to have lunch together when he was in Denver and he taught me how to read the Wall Street Journal Stock Page! I will be forever grateful for his expertise! I bought Walmart Stock in the early 70s and never looked back. I had spoken to his wife shortly after he passed. You're right...he was a great guy!! I stayed in contact with him after he left Denver...he was my go-to-guy for stock picking. After the bankruptcy he put Larry Thomas, the FSM manager, to work managing all his pizza parlors so he could play more golf. -Jake Lamkins (8/25/20)
