ROGER SORENSEN 1970 - 1986 STATION AGENT, CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE-IN FLIGHT, DISTRICT SALES MANAGER, STATION MANAGER LAS DEN ELP BVO JAC WYS WRL HDN BOI I started with Frontier in 1970 as an Agent in LAS, got furloughed and moved to DEN as a In-flight Customer Service Rep, then to ELP as a Temporary District Sales Manager, then back to In-flight then toBVO as an Agent until it closed, then to DEN as an Agent, to JAC for thesummer and back to DEN as a Agent. Next to WYS as Manager in 1973 then to WRL as Manager, then HDN as Manager then opened BOI in 1979 as Manager. During the in-between years I raised and raced Greyhounds across the country, worked as a Controller for a Electronic Manufacturer and joined the present day Frontier as Manager in ELP in 1996. Went to DEN in 1998 and then to MCI in February 2001 and onto SFO in November of 2001 and an still in SFO where I will no doubt retire. I would enjoy hearing from any of the many employees that I worked with thru out the years. Where has all the time gone? -Roger Sorensen (11/18/03) Roger Sorensen phoned to get info on re-newing his newsletter subscription. He's with the new Frontier in SFO and is assisting with opening FAT on the 31st. He said others with F9 are Jerry Schimetz at BIL, Dave Jarvis at ABQ and Larry Scofield at DEN in their HQs office. He said Jarvis had been with Braniff til their last bankruptcy. Roger said it was a real rat race now and nothing like the old days. -Jake Lamkins (8/11/05) Thanks for sending the Summer issue---I worked as an agent in LAS, got furloughed and went to Customer Service-In-flight for a couple of years, based in DEN, did a stint in ELP as District Sales Manager when we reintroduced jet service there, went back to DEN then to BVO until it closed, then DEN, JAC for the summer, back to DEN, then WYS as Manager and then WRL, HDN and finally BOI, all of those as Manager----I worked with some of the best people anyone could imagine, of course didn't realize it until later---isn't that life for you. Still keep in touch with several folks and I do know how blessed I was to have been associated with them. Like the old saying, "They just don't make them like they used to" is certainly a true statement. If all goes well, I plan to hang it up in a couple of years and set back and enjoy life. This industry has lost a lot of it's luster, with all that has happened in the last few years. You have to look real hard to find much "fun" anymore. (Could be that I'm now getting to be an old fart). Keep up the great work with the FL NEWS, I know that a lot of folks really enjoy it. I loaned a couple of copies to Jerry Schmitz last week while we were in FAT getting it ready to open on Aug 31, and he said he got started on them and stayed up way past midnight reading them . I think you will be getting a request for a subscription from him before long. -Roger Sorensen (8/15/05) ROGER JAMES SORENSEN (Age: 66) SONOMA, CA KANSAS CITY, MO CENTENNIAL, CO DENVER, CO KATY SORENSEN KATHY E SORENSEN KATHERINE ELAINE SORENSEN DEBRA L SORENSEN WILMA B SORENSEN M H SORENSEN -Intelius.com (6/30/07) It's hard to believe that this is due again - time sure goes by a lot faster than it did when we were in our twenties and thirties. Roger joined Frontier in 1996, but also worked for the old Frontier from 1970 to 1985. During his long career with Frontier, Roger spent time as the station manager at Denver International Airport, where he helped to implement the ramp agent program and develop the customer service training syllabus. Most recently, Roger was the station manager at San Francisco. Roger hired and trained many of the city managers we have today. “Roger was always there to offer advice or let me know how things should work – I valued his experience and his friendship,” said Jan Fogelberg, VP of customer service. “He was an institution here, a mentor to many of our current leaders. I’ll miss him greatly.” Funeral service details will be shared once they are set. Please keep Roger’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. -F9 website (4/18/13) Received this from a friend this morning. Roger drove himself to hospital last Friday night, they rushed him to ER but unable to save him. He died of an aneurysm, the large vein in his abdomen broke and he bled internally. His celebration of life will be held in Sonoma , CA first week of May. Roger was 71, would have been 72 in May. He was still employed as Station Mgr for new Frontier in SFO. -Lynda Lane (4/18/13) Posted at FLacebook and the FL Club: BOI station manager Roger Sorensen's memorial webpage has been posted. http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Roger_Sorensen.html Still need an obituary for Roger. -Jake Lamkins (4/22/13) Thanks for sharing this. In 1996, I was the first station manager to bring the new Frontier into SFO, and Roger took over in early 2000's. I went with DHS (Homeland Security) and visited with Roger almost daily. It was an honor and a pleasure to work with him. -Mike Jensen (4/28/13) Yep.. a real pro.. and, like so many other former FAL Frontier folks, came on board when F9 started up in March 94. He, they all, brought with them the real Spirit of the West... sadly, today, our airline is lacking that 'spirit' :(( John Shelburne (4/28/13) So sorry for your loss Kathy and our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you face each new day. Roger and I both started at Frontier Airlines about the same time in 1970 and have been like brothers ever since. I will always chesish my memories of him. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers Roger was a good friend for many years. -Bill and Vel Delap May 1, 2013 The only ex-FL I saw (at the memorial service) were Larry Scofield and Al Hepner. I think both were involved with F9 as well. Al was wearing his FL service pin and an FL tie - new logo. I'd forgotten to wear mine. One of the speakers was a friend of his from high school in Lexington NE. He had some good stories. -Geoff Morneau (5/21/13) I saw the sad news about Roger. I only worked with him for a short time but he had an impact on my entire life. Roger had what I was later described as having - "Tenacity". This important trait is severely lacking in our country these days. I remember from working for him in the Winter of 78/79 that sometimes when he was really serious about something he would say things/commands/orders in the form of a question, for example, "This plane will leave on time?" And, of course, the voice would be raised a bit. He must have related to the Git R Done comedic line. Thanks for the memories, Roger. -Bill Hoermle (5/29/13) Roger Sorensen was my mentor and an excellent Leader. His dedication to a job well done and his incredible compassion for people taught me everything I needed to know about the Airline industry. A true Airline man if there ever was one and I was lucky to know him My condolences -Tim McGee May 5, 2014 FLacebook on 2/12/22 when Roger's grandchild joined.
