Arthur Ray Harvey, and I was going to attache the Obit, but somehow, it is too large to send. Would you see if you can pull it up from the Dallas Paper, as it was in the Dec. 16th Obit, and the Funeral was today, Dec. 17. -Bill Blackmon (12/17/01) I was deeply saddened when I first received word of the passing of Captain Ray Harvey. I had flown as his co-pilot on many trips in the DC-3 when I first came on board Monarch Airlines in 1948. Ray was the number two man on the seniority list and the second captain to be hired by Monarch. He was ex-Navy and I was ex-Air Corps and we exchanged many stories of our experiences - both good and bad. On our layovers in Salt Lake City and Albuquerque we would frequent local libraries and museums and I found him to be friendly, serious-minded most of the time but could enjoy a good story now and then. I suppose, as we age, we have to expect the loss of some of our colleagues. This is a fact of life but when it happens, we take time out and reminisce time spent with each other and bring back some pleasant memories and perhaps, have a chuckle through a tear or two. Ray was from Fort Worth, Texas and I, even though from New York City, had the ability to talk like a Texan. How he'd get a kick out of that! I'd tell him that's what it sounds like to me. He'd say that it's exactly the way it sounds but coming from me, was really funny. I'd keep him in stitches when I'd recite an ATC clearance read-back with a Texas accent. He's laugh til tears came out of his eyes. Well Ray, you've made your final touch down here on Earth. If there's a place where old pilots go, then we'll meet again. Til then, here's wishing you blue skies, a tail wind and many happy landings. -Ace Avakian (2/5/02) A. R. HARVEY DEN captain, per the 11/4/55 FL Roster. A. R.
