The sale was made public in the Free Press on Tuesday in a news release issued by the company and in an editorial column by the new publisher, longtime Colorado newspaperman Bob Lombardi. The Free Press staff was informed of the change Monday afternoon. Founding Free Press publisher John Duffy is no longer with the newspaper. His partners in starting the venture, which printed its first edition May 19, 2003, are Bob Wilson and Chan Edmonds, both of Mesa County. A consultant to the new paper has been Ken Johnson, former editor of The (Grand Junction) Daily Sentinel who inherited that paper in 1970 upon the sudden death of sole owner Preston Walker. Johnson later sold The Daily Sentinel to Cox Enterprises of Atlanta. -Jake Lamkins (2/19/06) Found his eulogy from the Jun 1970 FL News.
