PEGGY OWEN PITHAN 1952? FLIGHT ATTENDANT GSW OBITUARY PITHAN, PEGGY JOANNE (OWEN) Peggy Joanne Pithan was born February 6, 1931, the daughter of William and Gladys McMillen Owen. She died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at her home in Charter Oak, Iowa, at the age of seventy-seven. Peggy was born in Delaware, Ohio, and received her education at Ohio Wesleyan and Ohio State. While in college she enjoyed sailing and was on the Sailboat College Team. She was a stewardess (flight attendant) for Central Airlines where she met her future husband. She was united in marriage to Leonard Pithan in Fort Worth, Texas. They were blessed with the opportunity to live in many different places. They began their life together in Texas where their daughter was born and moved to Oklahoma where their son was born. A few years after the birth of their son they moved to Tachikawa, Japan, for almost three years. They returned stateside to Northridge, California, and then to Yukon, Oklahoma. In 1977 they moved to the Pithan family farm north of Charter Oak. She was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and helped found the chapter in Mustang, Oklahoma. In her younger years she was involved as a Girl Scout Leader and Lutheran League leader. She had a very strong family heritage, was very family oriented and enjoyed family activities, loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Peggy was a very spontaneous person who in her leisure time enjoyed traveling and camping in the RV, swimming, reading, playing the organ and piano. She also enjoyed Palamino and Miniature horses. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Rassmussen and two brothers-in-law, Jack Duncan and Irvin Bohlmann. Survivors include her husband Leonard Pithan; one daughter, Patricia McCall and her husband Michael; one son Scott Pithan and his wife Virginie; five grandchildren, Jennifer Anderson, Victor McCall and his wife Jill, Taylor Pithan, Ethan Pithan, Cody Pithan and two great-grandchildren, Macie and Mallory McCall; one sister Janet Barnes and her husband David; one brother James Owen and his wife Roberta; her mother-in-law Verna Pithan; sister-in-law, Lois Duncan; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 30, 2008, at Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa. Pastor Meggan Manlove officiated the services and graveside rites at St. Paul's Cemetery of Charter Oak. Organist Jean Dommer provided accompaniment for the congregational hymn, "I'm But A Stranger Here," and for "My Way" and "Thy Word" by soloist Becky Marcum. Those serving as pallbearers were Gary Rodewald, William Magill, Ralph Dorale, Robert Stoltze, Sr., Ronald Maack and Allen Thams. A prayer service was held at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, June 29, at Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak. The family invited everyone in attendance at the funeral to the Charter Oak Community Building for fellowship and lunch served by St. John's Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home of Charter Oak was in charge of arrangements.
