OLLIE BRUNZ 1950 - 1984 STATION AGENT, SENIOR STATION AGENT, STATION MANAGER, REGIONAL MANAGER GXY GJT CYS SLC DEN SNY PUB BIL ABQ MSO I began my airline career with FAL in Greeley, CO, July 14, 1950 after attending airline school in Kansas City. I went to GJT for 2 months then CYS for 4 years as Station Agent. In 1954 I went to SLC as Sr. Agent. In 1955 moved to DEN as a Sr. Agent and stayed 4 years. When FAL was awarded the southern Nebraska route in 1959 I transferred to SNY as Manager; PUB in 1960 (Manager) then back to CYS as Manager in 1966. I was transferred to BIL in 1967 as Manager until becoming a Regional Manager of Stations in 1968. A reduction in Regional Managers sent me back to BIL as Station Manager in 1969. From there I went to ABQ (1972) then CYS (1973), both as Manager. Then things started happening in the DEN GO. A field manager did not know from day to day who his boss would be, so I thought it a good idea to give up being a manager. I went back to BIL as a Senior Agent in 1974, later becoming an Agent; and transferred to MSO as Agent in 1978. I retired from Frontier in MSO September 30, 1984. After 4 years of retirement I started work for United Express in MSO then we moved to GEG. Started work after the move for Horizon Air for 6 months and retired from the airline industry for good in 1990. Now Lorraine and I spend our winters in Yuma, AZ and summers in and around Spokane and the Pacific Northwest in our home and 5th wheel. -Ollie Brunz in the 2003 BIL Reunion booklet (5/10/05) Subject: Names of BIL Reunion 2006 group photo In case you don't know who some of the people are in the group photo I sent earlier, they are: Front row: Bob Voight, Ernie Harms, Irwin Humphrey, Lyle McGarvin, Lou Pecora, Hardy Hanson, Jim Purdy, Darrel Fenter and Jim Schwartz Back row left to right: Roger Greenlee, Al Krauter, Al Kwasney, Loren Holmgren, Ron Huet, Darlene Spieler, Doug Englehart, Ollie Brunz, Dee Martenson, Vern Russell, Bob Hooper, Jerry Schimetz, Darrel Robson, Larry Sanger, George Smith and Bill Beukenhorst. -Dee Martenson (8/11/06) Due to health reasons we will not winter in Yuma any longer. I was scanning the Feb 1962 FL newsletter and saw an item mentioning my FLriend Ollie Brunz back when he was in PUB. I got to thinking it had been awhile since I had heard from him and with a bad feeling, I googled his name and found he flew west three days ago. Ollie always supported all my FL News efforts over the years. He put in 35 years at FL and worked a dozen or more stations at station agent, station manager and other management jobs. If he touched your life along the way, post something at his guestbook - it will comfort Lorraine. http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/spokesman/obituary.aspx?pid=169656973 -Jake Lamkins (2/14/14) One person I was so glad to have in Missoula when I arrived in 1981 as City Manager was Ollie Brunz. He had 31 years with the company already and was a great help to me. He always answered my questions and he became a good friend. Photo: Ollie is in the front row far left. This was my staff in Missoula at our 1982 Christmas party. Rest in peace, Ollie! -Tom Schmidt (2/14/14) Ollie was a gruff, loud, and what some folks would consider offensive and oppressive. But, if you were doing your job, he was the best guy to be around. He would holler and shout, but if you hollered right back at him, he'd get that big ol' grin on his face and move on. One of the best managers I had throughout my career at FL. -Darrell Robson (2/14/14) Al and I remember him well. I think the last time we saw him was at a BIL FL reunion held in our backyard in 2006. He was one of a kind.....Our prayers and thoughts are with Lorraine. -Dee Martenson (2/14/14) Had the pleasure of knowing him and his wife, was always happy they attended our Phoenix Reunions. They both will be missed and may he Rest in Peace. -Ginger Treptow (2/14/14) I never had the pleasure to meet Ollie, but heard a lot about him when I started out working in PUB. He made an impression on people and was well thought of in PUB. -Joe Barker (2/15/14) O L BRUNZ DEN senior station agent per the Nov 1955 FL Roster. Over the years we have remained close friends. My best memory is of a time we visited the Brunz's in Red Lodge, Mt. Had a bonefire going and it was getting close to chow time and we were going to have hamburgers. Ollie said that if I want one I will have to have an onion with it. I don't like or eat onions. Well then he said you will have to starve. As hungry as I was, I decided to try it. Thanks to him I now can't have a hamburger unless there is an onion with it. Thanks Ollie. -Al Krauter (3/4/14) Ollie Brunz was the best boss I ever had. Worked PUB long time with him and bought his house when he left about 1965. When he was regional manager, he came to LAA a couple times to check me out. -Tom Clarke (4/21/14) Ollie Brunz worked in CYS as SSM, he was also a regional prior to and after merger.
