MARK BURKE 1954 - 1986 PILOT, CHIEF PILOT, DIRECTOR-PILOT TRAINING, REGIONAL DIRECTOR-FLIGHT OPERATIONS FTW ACF GSW DAL DFW DEN Although I haven't kept a record of dates of passing, I do know these to be correct; Mark Burke 5/19/97 Tom Sponsler 10/24/98 Andy Hoshock 10/11/96 Bob Arnot 9/1/96 Jack Newland 7/29/98 -Ace Avakian (6/2/99) I was leafing through the Obituary page today and although I can't supply any specific date info, on many of the pilot's listed there is no info at all. My memory is far from perfect butI thought I'd pass along what I remember about some of these guys. Mark Burke: Mark died from a heart condition. He had a heart attack several years before and seemed to have made a good recovery. Mark was VP Flight Opns at CEN when themerger came along. He became Chief Pilot at Ft. Worth with FAL and remained at that position until his health problems caused him to take a medical retirement. A great guy and probably the best Chief Pilot I worked for and with. -H.A. "Frosty" Frost (11/26/99) Mark Burke was my finest chief pilot, and I baptized, confirmed, ordained, and received all the Temple endowments for both him and Ron Munsen two years ago in the Las Vegas Temple (with permission from their widows). -Clyde Hart (11/26/99) As I reflect on all the great and fantastic years on Central and Frontier, I also grieve at the loss of my airline family and dearest friends and associates. Still living are Wes Tewinkle and Danny Farlin, along with Phil Stallings, Otto, Ken, Jim Ford and the rest, My great friend, Patt McDonald passed away months ago. I'd volunteered to donate half my liver for him. One of my best F/O's, Ron Munson, drank himself to death at age 47 when FAL went down. Two, Flegal and Grisanti blew their brains out. How many more had wives that divorced them when they could no longer support them at a level they were used to? Probably about 25-30. Mark Burke, the best supervisory pilot I EVER had died of a heart attack in 1997. We were friends from the beginning in 1964. Blackmon hired me. Del Booth was my mentor, don't forget Daddy Moss, Jug, O'Neil, and all the hard-ass Captains who made us what we are. Holding on to the past. Let us rejoice in the fact that no pilot, no company employees, will ever experience the perfection that was FRONTIER AIRLINES. -Clyde Hart (8/15/07) Got into your web site while looking thru aviation links. Used to fly for CEN hired 4/11/66, left in 6/67 to work for MOH. Received my last check from FAL Through mergers & name changes wound up retiring from USAir after 37 years in 2004. John Green, & Ken Taylor were in my class at CEN, both of whom I saw in the early 90's when they were with CAL. Worked for Sam Terry in Mark Burke in FTW. Enjoyed seeing pictures and names of many I had flown with and that I knew on your site. Unfortunately too many in the obituaries. Would enjoy reading more about a bygone era. -John Murphy (12/19/07) M F BURKE Pilot seniority date of 11/22/54, #2, on the 9/1/86 FL/ALPA seniority list. M F BURKE DFW Regional Director-Flight Operations, sen #60, on the 3-79 Pilot Domicile List. The Oct 1981 Domicile List reflects closure of the DFW domicile and DEN the only domicile. M F Burke listed as a 737 captain, sen #24. It appears he went back to flying the line after the DFW domicile closed. The 2-82 Domicile List shows Burke still a 737 captain with sen #22. The 5-83 Domicile list has burke as a super-80 captain, sen #12. Same listing on the 5-84 list but sen #9. My last Domicile List dated 5-85 has Mark still on the super-80 with a sen #3. No sick leave for Mark shown on any of the lists so the heart problem mentioned by Frosty may have happened after FL. -Jake Lamkins (7/22/10) MARK F BURKE Born 12 Apr 1927 Died 15 May 1997 Age 70 At 76040 (Euless, Tarrant, TX) SSN issued in Washington -SSDI (7/22/10)
