MAC MYHRE 1946 - 1959 TREASURER, VICE PRESIDENT, PRESIDENT DEN C.A. Myhre was Treasurer at Monarch Airlines at the time of the merger June 1, 1950 when Frontier Airlines was formed. Myhre became Executive Vice President of Frontier and later Frontier's second President in 1953 succeeding Hal Darr. He was President until January, 1959 when Bud Maytag bought the airline and became Frontier's third president. -Jake Lamkins (8/6/03) Frontier Airlines Elects 3 New Men to its Directorate Denver, June 1951 Three new directors were elected to the board of directors at Frontier Airlines and one director was re-elected at the annual stockholders meeting held here yesterday. President H. S. Darr of Chicago and other officers were re-elected. James A. Murphy, Phoenix, Arizona was named assistant to the president. In his annual report, Darr said that in the year since Frontier was formed by consolidating Challenge and Monarch Air Lines and Arizona Airways, all flight equipment has been standardized. He said most routes are running close to capacity. The new directors, all from Denver are C. A. Myhre, Donald A Duff and L. W. Linville. Willian Felton of Salt Lake City, whose term expired, was re-elected. Directors whose terms continue are Darr; Emil N. Levin, Chicago; Glenn C. Taylor and Del E. Webb, Phoenix, Ariz.; Ray M. Wilson, F W. Bonfils and Fred Manning, all of Denver, and Walter Walker, Grand Junction. Bud Maytag took over as president when he bought FL. Does anyone know what happened to Myhre? Did he work elsewhere at FL or retire? When did he die - I'm assuming he must be dead. "Mac" Myhre died Dec. 23, 1982 at age 71 in Burlingame, CA. Myhre, formerly president of Frontier Airlines, has been appointed vice president - finance of Pacific Airlines in San Francisco, it was announced Wednesday. Myhre was associated with Frontier from 1945 until January of this year when the airline ownership changed hands. He formerly was an official of the Air Transport Assn. and the Assn. of Local and Territorial Airlines. -1959 newsclipping sent by Pat Craze (11/19/03) Jim Clinkenbeard He started to work for Frontier in Denver as a mechanic August 17, 1959. He was an Inspector in 1967, and in March 1968 a Foreman in the Quality Control Department up thru the August 1986 Frontier shutdown. "Clink" worked for Pacific Airlines in San Francisco prior to joining Frontier in 1959. In the preparations for Frontier starting B-727-100 service in 1966, Frontier sent many of the mechanics to San Francisco to a United Airlines B-727 Maintenance Training Class at United's facility on the airport. One weekend Clink took several of us over to Pacific's Hangar where he talked to many of his old buddies. He then took us up to the second floor where the Airlines' offices were located, and showed us the office door with a sign that read, (C.A. "Mac" Myhre, Vice President and General Manager. Vol. 4 - #3 (Feb. 1955) Permanent certificate sought from the CAB on a new bid for permancy by the local service airlines. Three day hearing in DCA before the Aviation Sub-committee on Senate bill S-651 sponsored by Senator Warren Magneson of Washington. John F. Floberg counsel for Conference of 1ocal Service Airlines testified as follows: •2 million passengers used local lines in 1954 •20% of passengers connected to trunk flights •Recurrent expenses & time wasted on recertification proceedings by airlines, cities & states •Instability in any financial program to obtain needed funding •Difficulty to plan long range because of the instability & doubtful life expectancy of locals.
