From the Billings Gazette on Wed, August 25, 1954 -Jake Lamkins (5/10/13) FLacebook and the FL Club: Does anyone recall SMF station agent Luther Evans who started with FL in 1951? -Jake Lamkins (5/10/13) I certainly do remember Luther Evans. He was one of the most memorable people I knew at Frontier. I worked at SMF. We called him goat because most of the time when you asked him something he would just grunt back at you. There were all kinds of rumors about him working up on the high line in Montana. He truly was the most loveable person beneath his gruff exterior. Years after FL closed in 86 I heard a rumor he had been killed by a car in a parking lot. I have no idea how much of that is true. I will say my life has been made better by knowing him. -Mike Barney, SMF 1980-86 (5/10/13) I worked with him at the DEN freight house on Smith Road from 75-77. He would answer the phone by saying "This heeeree's Frontier". He always respected a hard worker. -Gary Murrell (5/10/13) Thanks for the info FLellows! It appears he died in Jul 1986. He's not on the 1/1/86 ALEA seniority list. Do you know when he retired? He was only 62 when he died. Was he called Lu or Luther? Back in the 50s he was GEY and LWT station manager. -Jake Lamkins (5/10/13) Luther Evans worked in Denver air freight for years. In fact my wife who was a secretary (Patty Reeves) in air freight in 1967-69 said he had over twenty years of service than. He was an excellent agent and gentleman. -Marv Pester (5/11/13) He was in SLC when I got there in '73 if memory serves. -Ron Abfalter (5/11/13) I was manager in DEN cargo in the 70s and I knew Luther well. I totally agree with Marv, Luther was a gentleman at work and off. I found Luther to be a extremely dedicated employee and a very nice person. -Ron Berg (5/17/13) Posted at FLacebook and the FL Club: DEN SMF station agent Luther Evans' memorial webpage has been posted. http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Luther_Evans.html Only recently found out about Luther's death. Need a better photo and an obituary. -Jake Lamkins (5/18/13) I worked with Lu in the freight shack in DEN. He got a transfer to SMF and was killed in a car accident there. He lived through the crash but died later in the hospital. Awesome dude, we pulled more stuff on Luther at the freight shack in DEN & it was in retalation for all the stuff he did to us. Great guy and a wonderful boss. :o) -Dick Medinger (5/20/13)
