LEO SCHUSTER 1949 - 1986 MECHANIC, AVIONICS TECHNICIAN, FOREMAN, DIRECTOR - MAINTENANCE DEN HUSBAND OF DEN SECRETARY ROSEMARY SCHUSTER I'm an ex Frontier employee that started with Monarch Airlines in 1949 as a radioman working on DC3 aircraft radios. About 1 year after employment I was asked to be a traveling radioman keeping station radios and Navaids (H markers) in repair. After 15 years of traveling and with the jets coming aboard I returned to the hangar as an Avionics Technician. The government was also adding VOR stations and the H markers were becoming obsolete which helped me make that decision. During the years of 1967 through 1986 or until shutdown I enjoyed many jobs and was Director of Maintenance when I left in December 1986. After shutdown I continued to work for the bankruptcy court maintaining the aircraft in storage until Continental took them. Thanks to Ken Schultz I have kept aware of all the news and have enjoyed the Frontier News. I will be sending monies for subscriptions shortly. -Leo Schuster (11/30/04) Glad to hear Leo Schuster has joined. I knew Leo since 1950 when he and George Bradley came into RIW to work on our H marker and radios. He also was in charge of the conference calls the Mgrs had toward the last days of FL. -Glenn Emmons (12/1/04) FL Club A question from a FL fan in Denmark. Have Darrell try La Manga @10230 feet and Cumbres Pass @10022 feet. These two passes are between Antonito, CO andf Chama, NM. I was one of the radio guys that maintained FAL owned "H" markers Antonito and Chama. During summer months we could drive over these passes but during the winter it was over Wolf Creek Pass or go south to near Santa Fe and either find a way to Alamosa or Farmington. For those that remember the little panel trucks we drove getting to these "H" markers during the winter months. We carried and used chains and shovel many times getting through snow and drifts to make our required monthly visits to these markers. There are many untold stories about these trips. Where were the interstates then? Loved it though. -Leo Schuster (12/13/07) Jake, I have the (Frontier history) book Gary Sevren sold. Some of history is questionable. I've been around since 1949 and I question some of the history as printed. You are welcome to borrow the book; just give an address. -Leo Schuster (8/27/08) Thank you, Leo, for the kind offer. I will copy it and return it to you pronto. Jake Lamkins (8/27/08) RE: FL History book Jake it is on the way. -Leo Schuster (8/28/08) RE: FL History book Hi Leo, Thanks very much again for the loan of the book. I'll mail it back tomorrow. I'm sending you the FL NEWS for a year as a token of appreciation. P.S. Here's a 1961 pic of you from my files. -Jake Lamkins (9/17/08) Leo and I were married in 1951 and I quit Frontier shortly after that because someone told me I had to or Leo would lose his job. I can't remember who told me that married couples were not allowed to work at Frontier but I believed him or her. I later wondered about John and Donna Meyers and wished I'd looked into the matter. I'm glad you like the story. -Rosemary Sullivan Schuster (4/27/09) Re Rosemary's FLight West: Dear Leo, I was sure sorry to hear about your loss. My heartfelt condolences. I hope her webpage will be some solace. With sorrow, -Jake Lamkins (1/6/15) Leo Schuster Wanted to let you know that Leo Schuster passed away yesterday. One of the nicest people I knew at Frontier -Carol Coombs (8/29/18) Very sorry to hear this. Leo was my Foreman when I started with Frontier in March of 1968. -Ed Schroeder (8/29/18) LEO SCHUSTER DOB 3/14/27 DOH 10/9/49 per the 1970 Frontier Personnel Roster. -Carolyn Boller (8/29/18) Leo and I worked together at the old Frontier Airlines. It is ironic that Leo passed away the same day that another friend, Carrie Aden, passed away. She was the wife of Leo’s friend Captain Everett Aden. Leo, I am sorry to lose an old friend. We’ll meet up yonder some day! -Jerry & Kathy Smith (9/1/18) I saw Leo's obit this AM in the Denver Post, he was 91 and died Aug. 28. No mention of FL in the obit but I'm sure this is the same guy that worked for FL. He had many positions over many years. When he was Director of Dispatch, his office was next to mine. After FL's murder, he worked for Ports of Call, FAA and F9. -Otto Smith (9/2/18) Ernie Van Winkle left a voice message that Leo's obit was in the DEN paper today. He said Leo worked in the radio shop taking care of the H-markers in the early days. He was a nice guy. -Jake Lamkins (9/2/18) Mr. Leo was a great Frontier employee and a great human being. He was my friend and fellow employee for the 10 years that I worked in DEN. Will see him on the other side. His only problem in life was that he sliced his golf ball off the tee, but it went a mile. -Fred Schubel (9/5/18) Barb Monday and I attended Leo's funeral yesterday-- his son spoke of Leo's four F's: Faith, Family, Friends and Frontier Airlines. At the reception, there were lots of Frontier Airlines rememberances.... postcards, business cards, pictures, etc. -Carolyn Boller (9/7/18) FLacebook - FL Club FLight West: Leo Schuster DEN director-maintenance Leo Schuster's memorial webpage is posted at http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Leo_Schuster.html Post your remembrances of him. -Jake Lamkins (9/11/18)
