LAMAR KNIGHT 1957 - 1981 PILOT, CHIEF PILOT GSW MKC DAL DFW Lamar Knight died a few months ago from lung cancer etc. -Jack Frost (11/28/98) I can't describe the feeling I got when I found this page memorializing those we have lost from the Frontier Family. I couldn't help but laugh and cry as I read and remembered the stories of Bob Wilbanks and Emmit Spinks and the "one armed pilots." I have listened to my dad tell those stories time and time again! My father is Capt. Bassel Lamar Knight Jr. You already have him listed in your memorial, but I wanted to add a few things to it. My father passed on August 29, 1997 of cancer. He began flying with Central Airlines in the late 50's or early 60's. I was born in 1962 and he was with Central then. I have enclosed a picture of my father and I will send more info for you to post. My thanks to you, and to all of those who have taken the time and effort to send their information. -Cliff Knight (1/25/01) Posted at the DC-3 Aviation Museum website (http://www.centercomp.com/dc3/gallery/Memorial_I-P.htm) Captain Bassel Lamar Knight Jr. This would be my memorial to my father, Captain Bassel Lamar Knight Jr. (1929 - 1997) Who flew in the 50's and 60's with Central and Frontier Airlines. He accumulated over 10,000 hours and wrote the last working flight manual for the plane in 1965. A great pilot! -Cliff Knight (11/9/02) Your Dad gave me my initial DC-3 co-pilot training when I hired on with Central in May of 1964. He taught some of the classroom systems and gave me all my flight training. We spent a couple days here in Kansas City doing the flight training with aircraft that were laying over here. Went back to GSW for our 3 night take-offs and landings and from there we went to the line. I flew co-pilot many hours for your Dad during the next several years until I checked out as Captain. He was a joy to work for and with ..... if such a thing were possible, I would go back in time and "pull gear" for Captain Lamar Knight anytime. Until Next Time, -Phil Stallings Captain (Ret), Frontier Airlines ('64-'86) An "old" Kansas City "580" Driver and Proud to be one of Lockett's Rockets (1/22/05) I grew up loving the DC-3. My father flew them back in the 50s and 60s for Central and Frontier Airlines. Before it was all over, he had flown the DC-3s for over 10,000 hours (that was not a typo). Not only did he have that many hours, but he wrote the last working flight manual for the DC-3 in 1965 (for Frontier). I lost my father on August 31, 1997. It was a big blow to me for my flying buddy was gone. -Cliff Knight, http://www.centercomp.com/dc3/logbook/logbook.html (4/28/05) LAMAR KNIGHT GSW captain per the 10/1/64 CN Pilot Domicile List. ------------------------------------------- B.
