JOHN MORGAN 1957 - 1985 STATION AGENT, SENIOR STATION AGENT, SENIOR PAYLOAD CONTROLLER, RESERVATIONS SUPERVISOR, MANAGER-RESERVATIONS DEN MKC STL KCK SLC We opened STLRR in April 68 and later relocated it to our first Kansas City location as KCKRR in the spring of 1973. We out grew this location and moved to a larger facility a couple miles away in July of 1979. We remained there until the fall of 1984. -John Morgan (5/21/99) We opened STLRR in April of 1968. In those days you’ll recall the old CAB authorized routes and after a long process awarded the winning airline the right to fly the route. There was a Hawaii and S. Pacific route case. In the initial finding Fl was granted non-stop DEN-STL and DEN-MKC, continuing MKC-STL. Braniff got the bulk of the routes to Hawaii and beyond. BN had anticipated the route and had built a new reservations office in downtown STL. The rumor at that time was President Johnson had influenced the findings, directing them to BN, a Texas based airline, his home state. As normal there was a waiting period before the route authority became finial. The rumor said someone in the LBJ administration had miscounted the business days his administration had remaining and the finial authority couldn’t be issued until 1 day after he left office. On the first day of Nixon’s administration the finial authority was held for farther review. After some time AA got the bulk of the routes and BN no longer had need for the STL center. We bought every thing, desks, chairs, etc. We operated there until the spring of 1973 when we moved to a suburban Kansas City location and became KCKRR. We left about 20 employees in STL who couldn’t move. We out grew the first KCKRR facility in 1979 and moved to another location a mile away. We were there until the famous 84-10 that closed the Eastern part of the system. As we closed we left about 30 employees there, with the rest moving to DENRR and SLCRR. There was other reservations centers in the early years, FTWRR that became DALRR and was later merged into STLRR. There was a PHXRR that was merged into DEN after DENRR moved from old hanger 5 to the much larger new hanger operation about 1970. -John Morgan (5/22/99) I retired a few years ago. After 28 years with FL I departed Aug 1, 1985. From there I did a startup Airline in PHX, StatesWest, worked for E. Paul Jones. There were several ex-FL people involved with it. From there to TranStar in Houston until they closed, then Best Western Hotels for a few years. -John Morgan (5/23/99) John passed away from a massive heart attack. I will forward more information as I get it. -Dick Rohrmann (7/17/03) I spoke with Bill Monday tonight...he said that John and his wife, Bobbie were in Colorado Springs visiting family. John had a massive heart attack, was taken to the hospital and passed there. Funeral services are private and will be on Sunday in Colorado Springs. More info as it becomes available -Carolyn Boller (7/18/03) Sorry to hear sad news, didn't John just recently move back to North or South Carolina? I think Diane told us that. I think at least 75 percent of res was hired by him Bob and he somehow clicked in Kansas City, and Bob mentioned a trip they took to Houston in 1970, and what fun they had. Do you have an address? Or donations anywhere? -Melissa Burns (7/19/03) John and Bobbie had recently moved to South Carolina. I don't know about donations, etc. but can certainly find out and let everyone know... including an address for the Morgans in South Carolina. I think that's right...John probably did hire most of the folks in KCKRR. -Carolyn Boller (7/19/03) Re John Morgan.. He died of a Heart Attack on Thurs Morn July 17, at his Father in Law's home in COS. He was 64 on that Tues. He had complained of a bit of indigestion and was at his PC when he died. He had a very private informal service on that weekend . Jan, Lyle, Barb and I were invited. His family was there or enroute as were planning a family reunion for the weekend. I believe John worked for CN in the stations before going into Res. He was the STL CRO manager when we first met in '67-68. Later, he managed the MCI CRO (2 different locations). He managed the SLC office towards the end after MCI was closed. He did a great job for me as Manager. Rohrmann or Riddle can give you info on John's early years. Lyle may have some info too. -Bill Monday (7/29/03) Received this from Peggy Spencer I hope this helps with what you need. I know that he had a massive heart attack while visiting relatives. -Trish Swanson Hawk (4/20/05) John Morgan passed away on July 17, 2003 just 2 days after his 64th birthday (I believe) at COS. Hope this helps. -Peggy Spencer (4/20/09) I was glad to see this web site, found out about it from my brother,Tom, who also worked for Frontier. Dick Rorhmann told me of his letter to you regarding Lyle. What a shock to turn to the next page and see a letter from John Morgan dated 5/23/99!!! John's wife, Bobbie had been here in Denver at our house since June to help out. We both had a good laugh about the guys always had to do things together. John had trained Lyle in Payload in the old Hanger in 1963/1964. We have been close friends since then with a lot of travel time together on "planes, trains and automobiles" and cruises. Bobbie and I just returned from joining Lyle's ashes with John's in a private family cemetery on a ranch near Luchenbach, TX. -Jan Anderson (11/3/09) Great hearing from you and I appreciate your support of the FL News. I didn't realize John and Lyle were such close friends. It seems so appropriate they were in the same issue. It had taken me years to collect enough info on John to do his memorial page justice. And the 1999 info was misfiled and only located this year. -Jake Lamkins (11/4/09) FLight West: John Morgan STL KCK SLC reservations manager John Morgan's memorial webpage has been updated: http://FAL-1.tripod.com/John_Morgan.html Still need an obituary for John. -Jake Lamkins (9/22/15)
