JIM THOMAS 1964 - 1986 STATION AGENT, SENIOR STATION AGENT FYV LEX MAF Have you heard anything on Jimmy Thomas? I heard that his daughter has taken over his financial, etc. matters. Not sure whether he is living with her, but sounds like he has some serious health problems. Were you aware of this? -Ken Stewart (1/23/04) I have not heard anything about Jim. I haven't seen him since the 2001 reunion. Let me know if you get any more info. -Jake Lamkins (1/24/04) I talked to Jim's first wife, Joyce, day before yesterday after several "answering machine" messages back and forth. Had a nice visit. As Jim and Judy split several years ago, Joyce and their children are helping care for Jim. He still lives by himself in the Weddington Drive house. He is in some stage of Alzheimer's and although he still drives he gets disoriented and does not remember all things. Joyce said she had told him that I had tried to call her and he remembered me, I told her to tell him I said "Hi". She gave me permission to tell anyone that he would welcome company and to drop by as he is usually at the house, he goes out to the "Keg" most mornings but little else, she or Debbie take some meals in to him. -Ken Stewart (7/16/04) Walker Collins said his sister had visited Jim at his home on West Highway 16 a month ago. She said Jim looked disoriented and that he didn't seem to remember who Walker was. -Jake Lamkins (2/8/05) I just got back the latest FL News mailed to Jim. It was marked "moved-left no address". Has anybody heard anything? -Jake Lamkins (8/2/05) Just talked to Jim Thomas's family. He is now in City Hospital (the old hospital on School Street). He does not seem to really recognize family when they visit. He has been a patient at several nursing homes. -Ken Stewart (8/13/05) Thank You Jake for the email about Jim. Can't tell you how sorry I am to hear about his problems. Hopefully it is not as bad as it sounds. -Don Enos (8/25/05) J E THOMAS Station agent seniority date of 5/4/64, emp# 08407 per the 1/1/86 FL/ALEA seniority list. Could not find anything in the SSDI. -Jake Lamkins (11/10/09) My new neighbor is from Greenland. She knew Jim and his family - her daughter was friends with Jim's daughter. I asked her awhile back about Jim and she said she would check. Today she told me that Jim was in a nursing home in Rogers. He has Alzheimer's bad and usually does not recognize his family. Sad news. -Jake Lamkins (8/14/10) That's so sad about Jim Thomas......... Alzheimers is called the long goodbye, and it surely is. -Johnny Selph (8/14/10) At last we know!!! It's sad to hear this, but at least now we know where he is. Thanks for the info. -Paul Farris (8/15/12) Jackie Barnett, my neighbor, phoned and said her daughter who went to school with Debbie, Jim Thomas' daughter, had a call from Debbie who told her Jim died yesterday in a nursing home. Sorry I won't be able to make visitation or funeral, as I will be out of town. Thinking of the family during this difficult time and praying for strength. With sympathy especially to his children. -Toni Brown September 20, 2012 | Farmington, AR My Favorite Hoss Story Jim was called Hoss by the Fayetteville crew because his size and mannerisms resembled Dan Blocker on the Bonanza TV series. One night in about 1967 we two were alone late at work one night and had a Trans-Texas DC-3 basketball charter to work. Hoss was working operations and I was on the ticket counter. After the fueler left, Hoss went out about midnight to kick the empty DC-3 out for it's return to Dallas. Trans-Texas planned to send another flight for the return of the team in a few days. Hoss didn't see any crew in the cockpit but commenced to pull the wheel chocks. Then he pulled the wind chock and wiggled the elevator but got no response from the cockpit. He looked again but there was no one in the cockpit. So he boarded the DC-3 and hiked up toward the cockpit and found the two pilots and stewardess (in those days) quite indecent on the front row of seats. "YOUR CHOCKS ARE PULLED!!!," Hoss bellowed and stomped off the aircraft. Shortly afterward a sheepish looking captain's face showed up in the cockpit. He started engines and Trans-Texas got the hell out of town. Hoss related this to me when he returned to the terminal and I nearly died laughing. He said, "Hell, I couldn't think of anything else to say." It was priceless. He was a great friend for many, many years and I will always remember him with fondness. -Jake Lamkins (9/21/12) Posted at FLacebook and the FL Club: FYV LEX MAF senior station agent Jim Thomas' memorial webpage is posted. http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Jim_Thomas.html Post your remembrances of Jim, aka Hoss. -Jake Lamkins (9/22/12)
