JIM JEPPESEN 1958 - 1972 STATION AGENT, MANAGER-TRAFFIC EVALUATION, MANAGER-RESEARCH & EVALUATION SLC DEN I wonder if it's right to send copy of e-mail updating a previous employee Jim Jeppesen of Frontier Airlines. He is quite a colorful man, worked under Lou Dymond and Paul Burke, is the son of Jeppesen who started Jeppesen Company. He stared with FAL in 1957, left in 1972. He's busy so won't meet with him till after holidays. -Bonnie Dahl (11/7/11) JAMES E. JEPPESEN Notation says Jim SLC station agent DOB 6/3/38 DOH 11/27/58 per the Feb 1960 FL Roster. J. E. Jeppesen, station agent seniority date of 11-27-58 per the Mar 1, 1962 FL/ALEA Seniority List. -Jake Lamkins (11/7/11) I had a great lunch with Jim Jeppesen, son of the original ElreyJeppesen who started Jeppesen Corporation. And of course, designed the Jeppesen maps. DIA terminal named after his Dad. I now have The book called " Capt. Jepp and the little Black Book", by Flint Whitlock & Terry Barnhart. Jim went to work for Frontier in 1957 as an agent. Don't know exact timeline, but he knew a lot of the old FAL folks. He then went back to UC, finished college then back to Frontier to work under Larry Sills in the Sales Department. It was Jim that came up with the idea of the standby fare for FAL under Lou Dymond. Jim then left Frontier in 1972. We, Patty, Ellen and I knew Jim from the olds days at FL. Jim stayed up late last night looking at our book and reading your FAL newsletter. I will send him link to the one on the internet. -Bonnie Dahl (1/18/12) JAMES E. JEPPESEN DENGJ manager-traffic evaluation per Jan and Jul 1970 FL Telephone Directories. -Jake Lamkins (1/18/12) Hi Art (Giffin) and hopefully Jake too. Thanks Art for getting me online with Jake and the Frontier family. That was a quick response from you to my earlier email as well as from Jake too. As a "new-be" to the Frontier family, there is a lot of catching up to do from the site. Too bad no one knew where Paul Burke was located except apparently me. As you know, I kept in touch with him mostly via email over the years until his final flight West. Fortunately I recently made contact with Bonnie Dahl, got her memorable FL book and subsequently got Paul Burke in the FL loop again. I think Paul would have enjoyed this FL site had he known about it. I know he really enjoyed Tex Searle's book I sent him about the early FL days, as did I, as well as Bonnie's book. We should to do another lunch and catch up on things. I want to do that with Bonnie too. Maybe we can all joint-venture an old timers "FL" lunch together at the Perfect Landing? Jake, That's quite an informative Frontier site you have created. I have a lot of catching up to do, but it will be fun going down memory lane. I have to say, for the most part, those early days with FL were some of the best and memorable times of my working career. From Station Agent to management positions in Marketing/Traffic Planning/Economic Analysis/Route Development under a whole host of presidents, including Paul Burke, I had a great time at "classic" Frontier! From DC-3s to CV-340, CV-580, B-727 and finally the B-737, that was quite a growth era for me to contribute and be part of. Fond memories, especially the stews, until I married one from UAL. Still got her after 44 years. -Jim Jeppesen (7/7/12) RE: DEN manager-distribution services Bill McKenney's memorial webpage has been updated. I, too, as Manager, Traffic Evaluation worked with Bill McKenney back in 1968 when the FL marketing department was formed under Walt Rollins. My office was right next to Bill's with an adjoining open doorway. We got to know each other very well and became good friends. He was a great guy with lots of airline savvy. The last time I saw Bill was at Ed Gerhardt's funeral. -Jim Jeppesen (12/8/12) Re: Pilot Jack Schade (Jim Jeppesen) I really enjoyed the articles about Capt. Jack Schade. I knew him when I was a station agent in SLC, late 50s to early 60s. He was the very best and most supportive of my desire to become a Frontier DC-3 pilot as I took flying lessons and ground school. Several times I got to fly with him in the DC-3 cockpit riding jump seat. He would always ask how I was doing and to be sure to get some college credits as required by Frontier. I subsequently did, graduating with a BSBA but had a great opportunity to join the newly created marketing department under Walt Rollins/Larry Sills so I quit flying and went middle management instead. Anyway, the purpose of my email to you is this: As I begin my taxi to runway 27, I would like to make a financial donation to you supporting the wonderful FL News Letter you produce. What is your private mailing address? -Jim Jeppesen (9/18/17) Jim Jeppesen, Son of the original Elrey Jeppesen, and former employee of Frontier Airlines, passed away on November 11, 2017. Jim started on the ramp in about 1959 or 1960 with FAL. Worked for a few years, then quit to finish college. Then he came back to work in Sales under Larry Sills. I don't know all the exact dates of years he was with Frontier. He was born June 3, 1938, and is survived by his wife Joyce who was a former United Stewardess. He lived in area called Castle Pines, Colorado. South end of Denver. Jim was a good friend of mine, we would meet for lunch at Centennial Airport couple times a year. He had a year + battle with cancer. I will miss him dearly. There is no memorial Service planned. -Bonnie Dahl (11/14/17) Oh Bonnie, this blows me away! Jim and I have been emailing and I last heard from him Nov. 4th. He said nothing about fighting cancer but now I see the significance of his remark about runway 27. Thanks for letting me know and for the pix. -Jake Lamkins (11/15/17) He was diagnosed with this fatal cancer about the time that photo taken last year. So, about the end of October, 2017, they stopped all chemo & radiation. He told me he didn't have long to go, but I didn't think it would be that fast! It was prostate cancer that had spread throughout his body. I was going to go out to see him & reminisce about the old days . He died early last Saturday morning at home with hospice there. He was such a neat guy, I'm glad you got to know him via e-mails. He still looked young in that photo, not 79. -Bonnie Dahl (11/15/17) FLacebook - FL Club FLight West: Jim Jeppesen DEN manager-research & evaluation Jim Jeppesen's memorial webpage is posted at http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Jim_Jeppesen.html Jim was a station agent 1958 - 1963, left the company awhile then returned in management.
