JERRY MCGRATH 1952 - 1967 STATION AGENT, SENIOR STATION AGENT, STATION MANAGER FMN ALS CDR DEN GLD FATHER OF STATION AGENT MARK MCGRATH You may have noticed on the seniority list I sent, that I was indicated as RMAAA (Rocky Mountain Airline Agents Assn) representative. That was a "company-union" (unaffiliated with AFL/CIO Teamsters or ALPA or any outside group. It was started (if I remember correctly) by the agents in PHX, and then spread throughout FAL until the company accepted it as the group speaking for the agents collectively. After a few months, or maybe a year, (since I was a relief agent traveling around from station to station,) the membership asked me to run for chairman, which I did and was elected in (I believe) 1955. Jerry McGrath, agent in FMN and then Sr. Agent in ALS was Secretary/Treasurer. Jerry McGrath's full name was William Jerome McGrath. He was from upstate New York, around Binghampton (where Bob Pier was also from). Hiw wife was from the northwest corner of Colorado, at Ovid, I believe. I don't know what happened to the organization after I transferred into DENL (Load Control) and then resigned from the company. -Ed Baker (7/18/03) On my last day in DENOO before transferring to BOI, I talked to an agent by the name of McGrath, might have been Mark. He told me he was the son of Jerry McGrath who I knew when I worked at CN. Jerry had worked at FL at several stations before coming to DENCN in 1962 or thereabouts. Jerry had left FL to come to work at CN, later he worked in Aspen for Aspen Air. He also worked in PHX for Cochise Air and Apache Air during the time Sam Cales was the manager for PHXOOFL. If any body remembers Jerry or knows how he could be reached I'd appreciate if you could let me know....... -Jim Lane (9/15/08) I have no info on Jerry's whereabouts.I did find a few items about him in my files: Jerry's full name was William Jerome McGrath. He got his three year pin in 1964 per a 6/2/64 article. His station agent seniority date is 6/5/61 on the 1/1/62 CN/ALEA seniority list. He is on the 11/1/55 FL/ALEA seniority list with a 1/9/53 station agent seniority date. He is not on the 1/1/74 FL list. -Jake Lamkins (9/15/08) Sorry to hear about Mark's death and didn't realize it right away that it had been so long ago. I didn't notice anywhere in an obit or elsewhere any thing about his parents or brother. I made a comment awhile back about talking to him in 1979 just before I moved to BOI. He had asked for my locker in DEN and reminded me that his mom, dad, and us used to socialize when his dad Jerry and I were at DENCN. I am hoping that thru your connections you might know how I could find out if his parents are still alive. Jerry had worked at FL back in the early '60s and then with CN in DEN & GLD before the FL merger. After the merger he left CN and worked in PHX at the old Sky Harbor terminal for a couple of small commuters, one of which had a crash killing most or all on board. Mark's brother and fiancée were on the crashed plane enroute to LAS to get married. Jerry worked for Sam Cales in DENCN and later was the manager at GLDCN. Jerry was a great guy to work with and knew his way around a chess board. -Jim Lane 1961 DENOOCN-DENOOFL-BOIOOFL-BOIOOCO-MCIOOCO-COSOOCO-IAHOOCO 1995 (5/31/16) W J MCGRATH CDR station manager DOB 3/9/23 DOH 1/9/53 per the Feb 1960 Frontier Roster. However the Mar 1952 Sunliner News shows him as a FMN new hire. -Jake Lamkins (5/31/16) Hi Jim, I got lucky and found Jerry's birthdate on a 1960 FL Roster. With that I found his SSDI showing his death in 1991 in AZ. However, I still can't find an obituary for him or Mark nor can I find anything on the crash you mentioned. -Jake Lamkins (6/2/16) Name Jerry McGrath Gender Male Died 3 Jan 1991 Notes Jerry worked for Apache Airline until 1971. Uncle Jerry had helped plan his Army unit's reunion earlier and then planned our Family Reunion in Las Vegas in 1990. We all loved Uncle Jerry and his great sense of humor. We were so glad we got to be with him a few months before he passed away. - from Donna Campbell. Children 1. Michael McGrath, b. 2 May 1948, d. 6 May 1971 2.
