I live out at Lake Livingston about 70 miles northeast of Houston. I would like all the info you can give me. -Jack Curtis (2/17/05) FLacebook posting: I am Bill Guthrie's younger cousin. My dad, Jack Curtis, was an employee (maybe you know him) and I am an old Frontier Airlines brat. My family was steeped in Frontier Airlines. Bill Guthrie, and another cousin of mine, Sam Warriner, my dad, and my uncle H.D. Grogg was a Captain. The Frontier Airlines era (pre-1986) was one of my favorite eras of my life and is filled with most of my fondest memories. I am very glad there are some people like yourself out there keeping those memories alive for us. -Larry Curtis (12/23/14) Great hearing from you! I remember your dad very well going back to the Central days. He came to FYV to keep our radios going. I hope he is well - tell him hello. And, of course, I remember Hal and Bill. Put Old Frontier Airlines in the Facebook to join our FL group. Be sure to visit our website at OldFrontierAirlines.com Merry Christmas! -Jake Lamkins (12/23/14) Bill Guthrie phoned near noon to tell me Jack Curtis died ths morning. He was Bill's aunt's son so they were first cousines. Grew up together and were more like brothers than cousins. He will let me know details as he gets them. -Jake Lamkins (1/20/19) Text message: Jack Curtis service will be Friday, Jan 25 at 11AM at Calvary Baptist Church, 65 Petroleum Rd. Coldspring, TX. A nicer guy would be hard to find. He was kinda the reason my Dad (Bill) got his job. The entire family hurts. Thanks Jake for posting this awesome picture. No matter how hard you try to be ready for when a family member flies west, it never is easy and you can't help but cry. I sure do miss him. -Mark Guthrie (1/22/19) I remember him well from back in the days when he came to FYV (and other stations) to do maintenance of our radios. A very likable guy! -Jake Lamkins (1/22/19) Jack was a great guy and a damned fine radio guy. He came to all of my cities at least once to fix radio problems. May he Rest In Peace, he was always happy doing his job. -Joe Barker (1/23/19) I can't remember life without him. We were together most of our lives. In our early twenties, we bought twin 1941 Plymouth coupes. He was like another brother. We both started our Central Airlines careers at Meacham Field in FTW. Me, five years later. He was responsible for me getting my job. He will be sorely missed. Thanks for the great pic , Jake. -Bill Guthrie (1/23/19) Jack was great guy. Rest in Peace. -Gary Mueller (1/23/19) So Sorry, Jack and I worked for same company many years. Jack holds many of my IOU, such as my wedding reception was in Jack's living room. Not once did he ever ask for anything in return. -B J Blackerby (1/23/19) Lots of memories about fun times with Jack. We kept in contact all these years and made semi-annual trips to visit for many years. That will all be missed very much. -Gerald Villhauer (1/25/19) Any time our radio would break, he would fly in. -Richard Pennino (1/30/19) J CURTIS Emp# 01654 Ground Radio Tech DOB 11/4/35 DOH 2/4/53 per the 1970 Frontier Employees Roster. ----------------------------------------------- JACK CURTIS DENXG - ground radio No title shown per the Nov 1978, Dec 1979, Dec 1980, Jan 1982 Frontier telephone directories. ----------------------------------------------- J CURTIS Emp# 01654, DENXG Address in Denver, CO per the Nov 1984 Frontier Employees Roster. ----------------------------------------------- J CURTIS Ground radio mechanic seniority date of 4/17/59 per the May 1986 FL/IAM Seniority List. -Jake Lamkins (2/5/19) FLacebook - FL Club FLight West: Jack Curtis ACF GSW DAL DEN ground radio mechanic Jack Curtis' memorial webpage is posted at http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Jack_Curtis.html He was well known in the stations as the friendly guy who kept the radios working. -Jake Lamkins (2/7/19) I never heard my dad say much negative about Continental, but there is hardly any former Frontier employee I ever knew who could say United without the proverbial F-word expletive in front of it. In fact Pop wound up retiring from CAL and it was kind of comical when he had to be issued a new ID from United a few years hence. He sat there looking at it and repeated the common expletive followed by United. Then took a swig of Wild Turkey and laughed. LOL! -Larry Curtis (12/30/19) FLacebook posting about filing for unemployment after the bankruptcy: Larry Curtis My dad was in the same boat of despair, having to file for unemployment for the first and only time in his life about killed him. I don’t think it helped him much for me to tell him that unemployment is supposed to be for times like this, either. Because of his knowledge and outstanding work ethic, he didn’t have to collect it for long as CAL hired him pretty quick. He had to start all over at the bottom of the wage scale which was a bit difficult, but his outlook was very rosy again for being back on the work force. It didn’t take him very long to advance with CAL, either. They did a lot for him to help him in his comeback which was greatly appreciated! I hope that was the case for all FAL peeps who went to work for CAL, too! Pop ended up in management pretty fast. He had been a worker bee throughout his career with Central and FAL, so he had to make some adjustments in his mind which wasn’t all that easy, but he DID excel. The best part was that his guys loved him and enjoyed working for him, and those feelings were mutual. It spoke volumes to me when Mr. Bethune showed up at Pop’s retirement party they had for him on the B Concourse at IAH. I was so proud, yet saddened that Pop’s career was coming to a close because he really loved his job and the people he worked with. Jake Lamkins I met your dad about 1965 when he was a traveling radio mechanic for Central. He was a great guy! http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Jack_Curtis.html Larry Curtis 1965 was one of the happier periods in my family’s life, living in KC was so much fun for us all. Dad began flying and earned his pilot’s license in KC, so he was about as close as you could get to being on top of the world! He was also certified in KC to run and taxi aircraft on the ramp. I can just imagine him taxiing a Dakota over to the hangar from the gate ramp and having to fight the urge to line it up at the end of the runway and pour the coals to her! Some years later in Denver, CAL asked him to move their DC-3 that was used for nostalgia tours. Pop was elated for weeks after that! Larry Curtis I cannot explain why I’ve never looked at that awesome memorial page before! I guess the reminders have just been too painful for me to regard, and I am very truly sorry for that! Thank you for doing such a wonderful job on it! I had to grab a Kleenex, but still! I love it! (8/28/20)
