A friend of mine who is very close to Hal and Cheryl and I have known for years, and was at my retirement party, called me a few minutes ago with this news. I called Bob McCoy; telling him of this event, and he suggested that I give you an E-Mail of this news. he will also be writing you, in case I don't have your correct address. I am raising a glass of scotch to the WEST as we speak. Sorry to pass bad news to you. Pat Taylor -Relayed by Billy Walker (4/8/99) Hal had recently turned 60, I believe last June. A heavy smoker, he collapsed during a go on a treadmill. He was only 60 and recently retired from the new Frontier. We started at Frontier in '67. I was a month after him. Hal was known as "Hal The Pal" he will be missed. -Billy Walker (4/19/99) Hal's first flight with Frontier was as F/O on 6/11/67. He remaind with the company until it's 'demise' in August, 1986. He flew with Continental until returning to the "new" Frontier Airlines in 1994. His final flight for Frontier (forced out by the FAA 'age 60' rule) was on July 20, 1998 when he flew from SEA to DEN on a/c #306, a 737-300, arriving to a colorful water cannon salute. I was priviledged to be on board for his last trip. -J.A. Shelburne, Ogden, Utah (11/24/99) ...just a person in the mix of the new Frontier, making history again; a much different time now. I wish I could have been around when the old Frontier was in operation. I grew up in Southern California, and moved to Boulder in 1990. My dad actually went to high school in Calif with Vern Carlson - Pilot of the old Frontier. He lives in Boulder, and is a big runner. Running all the time. Nice fella. I also had the opportunity to fly with Hal Osborn and John Landwehr in the late 1990s. Great guys. -Kent Katnik (11/17/09) Hal died in 1999 of a heart attack - less than a year after retirement from F9. Way too early. -Jake Lamkins (11/17/09) H D OSBORN Pilot seniority date of 6/19/67 on the 9/1/86 FL/ALPA seniority list. -Jake lamkins (11/17/09) FL Club Updated memorial webpage HAL OSBORN 1967 - 1986 PILOT DEN http://LAMKINS. tripod.com/ Hal_Osborn. html Post your remembrances of Hal. -Jake Lamkins (11/17/09) FLacebook post of Jan 1973 VEL pic Coy Preece I'm pretty sure that captain walking is Hal Osborn Jake Lamkins Thanks, I'l add it to his memorial webpage (11/2/20) Coy Preece Jake, thanks for updating Dean Reynolds and Hal Osborn pages. I have a story about Hal. Hal came in to VEL from GJT on the early 630 am flight headed to SLC then to JAC, SLC, VEL, RKS, DEN. On his way out of VEL he radioed back that he may have hit a bird on take off. We went to the end of the runway and sure enough there was a rooster pheasant. The only marks was a small gash on its head. When Hal returned in the trip from JAC and SLC he called in-range. We told him when he landed to come into the station. We had BBQd the pheasant. He laughed and ate several pieces. Said he had never had such great service. Something I've always remembered. When he and I met at F9 we talked about that time in 1978 when we enjoyed a great BBQ. Jake Lamkins Good story, Coy. Thanks for sharing.
