He and his wife bowled in our Frontier league for many years. 
OBITUARY
Robert E Long, 71, a retired aircraft mechanic, died Thursday, Aug 28, 2008.
Memorial services will be at 1 PM Wed Sept 3 at Fairmount Mortuary. 
Robert Eugene (Gene) Long was born in Wingate, NC, May 12, 1937 to Robert Grier and Ruth Wrape Long. 
At a young age his family moved to Charlotte NC 
where he graduated High School and then joined the Air Force in 1955. 
He was stationed in Alaska and Texas where he met and married Esther Choate. 
He had a career as an aircraft mechanic in the airline industry for more than 26 years. 
He was active in the AYL in both baseball and football as a coach for 19 years. 
Gene is survived by his wife, Esther, a daughter Cindy (Troy) LaRusso, a son Keith (Jennifer) Long 
and grandaughters Brittany (Patrick) Carroll, Lyndsay Long, Grandsons Dylan LaRusso and Brayden Long.

Thanks for the info on "Gene" Long.
Gene started to work for Frontier September 9, 1960 (IAM seniority lists) as a cleaner 
and became a Lead Cleaner, then transfered to the Stock Room in October, 1965.  
On June 1, 1974 he transferred to the Sheet Metal Shop 
and worked as a mechanic until Frontier's shutdown in August 1986.
