EV ADEN 1946 - 1981 PILOT, CHIEF PILOT, DIRECTOR OF FLIGHT OPERATIONS, PILOT TRAINING DEN Sunliner Times Vol. 1 - #9 (September 1952) Capt. Everett Aden spent three months helping Iceland's Flugfelag Akwreyrar (airlines) set up scheduled services between Iceland and Scandinavian countries. Operated 3 PBYs, 2 DC-3s and one DC-4 aircraft. There were several Frontier pilots trained at Plains Airways. In addition to Fred Hart, Warren Heckman learned to fly at the Laramie base and Ev Aden received some of his training at the Cheyenne base. I don't know where Eve learned his expertise on ADF operation, but he was the world's renowned expert on low freq navigation. FAL loaned him to Icelandic Airlines to set up their system. He was really something as a professional airman except he bent all the DC-3 throttles forward...(grin). -Billy Walker (8/9/99) Captain Ev Aden was without a doubt one of the finest people I ever met. We all loved working with him. -Ann Yanulavich (1/29/02) Ev Aden was Chief Pilot at that time and in those days among other duties, he also was like the Chaplain in the military. If one had personal problems, one would go to Ev and talk things over. He would comfort us like a Father. I remember a time when I first got my Amateur Ham radio license. Excitedly, I told Ev about it. He actually came over to my house and we made a radio contact (I think in Canada) and Ev talked on my radio. I wonder how many Chief Pilots you could do that with today? -Ace Avakian Article in FARPA NEWSLETTER JAN/FEB 2003 (2/4/03) Check Golden Age Of Flying book by Tex Searle -Jake Lamkins 6/6/04 Regretfully, to inform you of the Gone West of Capt. Ev was from Chugwater , WY just a few miles north of Cheyenne . Years later, at good ol' Frontier, I had some great flights with Ev and learned to admire and respect him. I also discovered how the throttle's on the Frontier airplanes got bent forward. Ol' Ev liked to go fast! He was very knowledgeable and smooth on the controls. Several of the old Frontier aviators learned to fly at my dad's flight school 'Plains Airways' during WWII. He had 3 CPT schools located at Cheyenne, Laramie and Ft. Morgan (CO) for the pre-glider training program. With my mother's situation, I don't think I can make the services. I will be there in spirit. -Billy Walker (1/8/08) Everett L. Posted at the FL Club: Ev Aden's obituary It may be viewed at http://www.legacy.com/denver/Obituaries.asp?Page=Lifestory&PersonId=100968308 Please leave a note in Ev's guestbook. He was a great guy. I vividly remember how he would hang out in the STL gate in the late 1960s. He flew the late afternoon 727 to DEN. TWA had a flight leaving 5 minutes before us a few gates further down. Ev would talk passengers into going with us instead of TW by promising to beat TW to DEN and that he would feed them lobster & steak. He made it sound like he was personally cooking for them. Then he would make inflight announcements later when he passed TW. His brother Dean Aden was a mechanic with FL. Ev went into the pilot training department after he retired from piloting in 1981 when he reached 60. I have not been able to find out how long he continued there. -Jake Lamkins (1/10/08) Here's some copies of some ads that were run in all newspapers and other publications in 1966. One is of Everett Aden who just passed away. The other is Patty O'Neill who was one of FAL's favorite flight attendants, used these two for a lot of advertisements. Patty quit in the late 1960s and now works at restaurant in Aurora called the Summit. Thought you might like to see them or share them with others.
