ERNEST FUQUA 1953 - 1986 AIRCRAFT CLEANER, AIRCRAFT MECHANIC GSW DAL DEN I was looking at http://www.law.cornell.edu/supremecourt/text/372/682 and http://www.leagle.com/decision/1961504295F2d209_1440/INTERNATIONAL%20ASS'N%20OF%20MACHINISTS%20v.%20CENTRAL%20AIRLINES,%20INC. trying to see if this was when the Pratt brothers were off work. Seems like you told me you were one of them too. Is this the lockout you mentioned about them? Do you recall the names of the six that were fired? -Jake Lamkins (5/12/14) As I remember the strike only lasted about 8 days. When the IAM called an end, we were all called in for interviews. Most people that previously held lower classifications( cleaner, stock clerk) were offered an opportunity to return to those positions. About half of us were terminated and reinstated after the court ruling. That took six and a half years -Bill Guthrie (5/12/14) I found a court decision that named Robert K. Doud, Sherman V. Cornstubble, Otha L. Broom, Clinton R. Casey, Parker R. Davis and Ernest E. Fuqua, Appellants, Are these the six mechanics that were out for six years? How long were the Pratts, you and others out? Thanks, -Jake Lamkins (5/12/14) That's the six Jake. We were all out six years -Bill Guthrie (5/12/14) I'm still trying to get it straight. Besides the six named in the lawsuit, how many others were out six years such as you and the Pratt brothers? Did you all get back pay and seniority? Thanks for bearing with me, -Jake Lamkins (5/12/14) I think there was about 80 or more. We all got our seniority back to hire in date. I think the 6 got a monetary settlement. Not sure how much. -Bill Guthrie (5/12/14) Ernest Fuqua Brady White called me last night and said Ernest passed away. He asked for your number so he could give you the details. Just wondering if he was able to reach you. -Bill Guthrie (8/3/15) Funeral Services for Earnest Fugua Attached is the obituary for Earnest Fugua who passed away in Denton, TX, Saturday, August 1, 2015. Thanks for your help, -Brady White (8/3/15) Ernest Fuqua. Another one of the good guys. When I was the only person assigned to the carpenter shop at GSW if I needed help I always asked for Sam Warriner or Ernest Fuqua or both if necessary. What a shock to lose them both this year. -Bill Guthrie (8/3/15) Thanks for the info on Ernest. Was he called Ernest or Ernie? I'm attaching a Jun 1973 article about him from my FLiles. -Jake Lamkins (8/3/15) He was always called Ernest. -Bill Guthrie (8/3/15) E E FUQUA Aircraft mechanic seniority date of 10/26/53, # 13 on the list, Retained aircraft cleaner seniority time of 21 yrs, 4 mos, 27 days. per the May 1986 FL/IAM Seniority List. -Jake Lamkins (8/3/15) FLacebook - FL Club GSW DAL DEN aircraft mechanic Ernest Fuqua's memorial webpage is posted: http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Ernest_Fuqua.html Ernest was one of the "Central 6" which established a historic precedence in airline labor relations and interpretation of the Railway Labor Act. The six Central Airlines aircraft mechanics refused to attend disciplinary hearings without a union rep and were fired by Central. The System Board gave them their jobs back with back pay. Central refused to abide by the System Board decision and the subsequent lawsuit went to the Supreme Court which ruled in the mechanics' favor. IAM had called a strike over the mess and Central fired dozens more mechanics. It would be six years before they all got back their jobs after the Supremes sang. The case has been often cited in subsequent labot disputes. -Jake Lamkins (8/18/15)
