PLEASE TELL RUTH AND THE KIDS THAT I AM THINKING OF THEM AND THAT I FEEL THEIR LOSS TOO. -WAYNE HOLDER (11/23/00) Elton began working for Central Airlines in 1957 and worked in FYV as an agent, senior agent and station manager until it was closed January 31, 1982. He worked as an agent in HOU and then in SGF until the Crash came in 1986. Afterwards he concentrated on his poultry farm west of FYV and was in his yard when a heart attack killed him on November 20, 2000, at age 72. He had told everybody at the FYV-FSM FL PIGnic the previous August that he was selling out and intended to spend some time traveling. We told him that at age 72 he deserved it. There were two things about Elton one remembers. His slow drawl and gentlemanly manners - you very rarely saw him upset. He could handle just about any situation on the ticket counter and frequently bailed out the younger agents who were losing their cool with an irate customer. He was always willing to lend a hand at whatever needed to be done. The most important thing in his life was his family. Two years ago Elton and Ruth celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and their four children hosted a large banquet for them. Afterwards they took a cruise in the Caribbean. Elton turned 70 that same year. He's survived by his wife Ruth and four children. FRONTIER NEWS WINTER 2001 Do you ever see David Hency? I remember him and the late Elton Dial. Great group of guys to work with! -Laurie Robbins (1/24/05) I worked with Elton nearly 18 years. They didn't come any better. I didn't recall that Dave Hency came up to SGF. I saw him a few years ago and he was a corporate pilot for Peterson Industries. -Jake Lamkins (1/24/05) E D DIAL Seniority date of 6/28/57, emp # 01835, on the 1/1/74 FL/ALEA seniority list. -Jake Lamkins (12/9/06) Posted at the FL Club: Updated memorial webpage ELTON DIAL 1957 - 1986 STATION AGENT, SENIOR STATION AGENT, ACTING STATION MANAGER FYV HOU SGF http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Elton_Dial.html I found several more pix of Elton. I worked with him from 1964 til 1982. He was hardworking, friendly, conscientious and always helpful to new agents. Elton was a devoted family man and a self described Okie who was a man of his word and treated all with respect. I was lucky to have him as a friend and to work with him so many years. -Jake Lamkins (7/11/16) I was a newbie at FYV and Elton always had time to show me everything I asked him about. He was genuine friendly and always ready to help. Great guy, I liked him right off. -Jim Camp (7/12/16) I certainly do remember Elton, from my multiple transits through SGF. A nice guy, indeed! Thanks for the update. -Mark Ingram (7/12/16) I worked with Elton in SGF until operations ceased. He was a wonderful man! -Laurie Robbins (8/2/20)
