ED CISKOWSKI 1952 - 1986 STATION AGENT, STATION MANAGER PNC WWR DUC STL COS JLN SGF One funny ? story that happened in SGF. Try topping this! When I was City Manager in Springfied Missouri (SGF) we had boarded passengers and all cargo when I passenger realized his luggage was incorrectly checked. He called this to the attention of the attention of the agent in the galley (Bill Mertens) and Bill had Ed Ciskowski and Don Naile check the rear compartment and correct the tag. Not realizing there were two agents in the aft compartment, both engines running, the captain advised the agent on the ear phones he had an aft cargo light. The agent laid down his phones and proceeded to shut the cargo door - not realizing two agents were inside. He returned to the front of the aircraft and dispatched the flight. That is when sheer panic began for Ed and Don. They began pounding on the bottom of the floor and one of the 3 flight attendanats heard the noise and reported it to the captain. He told here it was the tires hitting bumps in the ramp and not to worry. Normally we loaded the aircraftg so ICT did not have to work the aft cargo. However, on this particular day Marshall Dake had lost his I. D. badge and believed it was in the AFT. He called ICT and asked them to check for it. Well.....imagine what happened when four feet came flying out of the aft compartment when the door was opened. Actually they were not missed until one of them called and asked one of the agents to call his wife and let her know he would be late getting home. The rest I want to forget...letters to FAA, etc. -Sam Jones, Joplin MO (3/16/04) I just heard what I think might be an FAL urban legand. Did an agent get locked in a cargo hold (in a CV 580 I'm assuming!) and end up unwillingly in ICT? He supposedly was stationed in SPG. I'm sure it wasn't funny to the guy that got locked in the pit, but after all these years, it really made me laugh. Any truth to it?? -Carol Stillman (1/26/05) One of the 2 agents in the SGF-ICT incident was Ed Ciskowski but I forgot the other guy's name. They were in the rear pit waiting for last minute stuff but there wasn't any. Whoever was shutting the door didn't look inside first and was in a hurry. The F/a's told the crew that there was a funny thumping sound from underneath as they were taxiing out but the crew just assumed it was tar strips on the taxiway. Ed said it got kinda cool in there but fortunately it was summertime and the flight was short at a relatively low altitude. And yes, he was a little miffed at first but saw humor it it when I asked him about it later. -Frosty Frost (1/27/05) Ed Ciskowski is also the JLN agent who validated the tie of an irate customer. HA! I never had the guts to do that although many times I wanted to. -Jake Lamkins (1/28/05) Validated the tie?? How did he do that? Did he cut it off or something?? -Carol Stillman (1/28/05) In Ed's case the irate passenger was leaning over the counter giving him hell and his tie was hanging within reach of the validator. Ed took the dangling tie, put the end in the validator, then slammed the validator very hard leaving a large black JLN ATO on it I had a fellow storm up to the counter one night in FYV and he yelled right at me, "You're the SOB who lost my bag!!" I came right back, "NO NO, I'M THE SOB WHO'S GONNA FIND IT FOR YOU!" He settled down real fast. The rule of thumb at the counter was that the better dressed they were, the bigger jerks they were when things went wrong. And, for some, nothing had to go wrong! -Jake Lamkins (1/28/05) That's right! Now that you mention it, I remember hearing that Ed Ciskowski was involved in the SGF-ICT incident. I worked with him in JLN in the late 70's. What is so funny about it is the irony. While I was in JLN, Ed was involved in an incident where the front pit door was left open on a B-737 and it took off and had to return. -Steve Burger (1/28/05) A Psgr was banging on the counter saying my bag is still on that airplane..so good old Ed Ciskowski.who had already been told that is all the JLN stuff we could find would not take anyone's word for it decided to take matters in his on hand. so While Otis Lytle was putting up the stairs on the 737 to ICT Ed goes out and climbs into the cargo bin to see for his self..Otis proceeds to plug in the head set and crank up the first engine..The capt says HEY Otis we have a cargo door light.....with engine running Otis un plugs goes back shuts the cargo door----and the rest is history..ON the way out to T/off the flight atten called the Capt..saying there is a big thumping sound back here only to have them (it seems like ol ED was banging on the cargo ceiling but no one would help) say the tires were hot when we landed and it was quite cold in JLN and the tires had a flat spot on them by now and they were thumping on the ground. SO OFF to ICT it was. Arrival in ICT they open the cargo bin only to find dear ol ED..all tied up in the Cargo net and holding on for dear life...IN THE mean time the PSGR was realy up set at the JLN TC because no one was helping him and his bag was still missing..and we could not find ED..who was supposed to come right back and help him. -Jerry Pickering (1/29/05) E L CISKOWSKI Seniority date of 11/1/52, emp # 01430, #10, Per 1/1/86 FL/ALEA seniority list. 40.
