DUANE DILLARD 1973 - 1974 PILOT DEN I just thought of another pilot that I don't believe was on th "Flown West sheet. And I can't remember his last name but I think his first name was Duane. He was a co pilot hired around mid to late 70s also. Had been a pilot from Air America and was from Santa Barbara, CA. His father called me from there after his death. -Ernie Lingren (9/6/03) The only pilots named Duane that I have any obituary info on are Duane Cook and Duane Hingst. I checked Ace Avakian's list and those are the only two he has too. I'll query Ace & see if your note rings a bell with him. -Jake Lamkins (9/6/03) The only Duane's that flew for us at FAL that I can think of, was Duane Cook and Duane Hingst, both 'Gone West'. Sorry - but this is the only info I can give you at this time unless someone comes up with something I'm not aware of. -Ace Avakian (9/7/03) I remember D. Hingst and D. Cooke. Twarn't either of them. I do remember the kid well. He was a big kid, fresh faced and rather naive, but a good kid. I just called a widow of a friend that flew for NW. He knew Duane well. His wife could only confirm that he first name was Duane and it must have happened around the spring of 74. The obits in a Denver paper might have it, I don't know. I'll think some more on it. If we could just get our hands on a seniority list for that period. -Ernie Lingren (9/9/03) There was a D.N. Dillard who is shown deceased on 11-19-74 (DOB 12-31-41). There was a T.D. O'Sullivan with us for a year resigning in 1975. D.H. Olson resigned shortly after his hire date in 1977. There was a D.E. Klock deceased in 1979 less than a year after his hire date. We had R.D. Van Cleave 1978 hire date. These are all I have showing an initial "D" on the name. You could send these to Ernie and tell him we tried calling on our way past his home the other day. I lost his e-mail address... -Billy Walker (9/11/03) It was Duane Dillard. A good kid that just lost his way. Too bad we sometimes miss the cues. -Ernie Lingren (9/12/03) You may want to know that Ernie and Marilee Lingren were terrific during the terrible times in 1985-1986. They were in charge of our Family Awareness Program. There can not be enough said for what they did for the Frontier Family. In fact, they should be thought of as hero's to the pilots families. A more caring couple will be hard to find anywhere. Duane Dillard was born 12-31-1941. He was hired by Frontier on 5-14-1973. His adjusted seniority date was 9-14-73. He was Furloughed on 1-1-74 and recalled on 5-1-74. His death was on 11-19-1974. When I sent you the list of names with the initial "D," Duane's name didn't register. I am sad to think I had forgotten him. Thanks to Ernie, I doubt I will now. In fact, I will go thru my list and give you and Ace the names and dates of those I have in case someone else is missed... Since I am sure anyone hired before 1968, I will start with Jim Rimer hired 4-29-68 and died from a heart attack on 11-28-83. Jim was born 10-18-34. Ron Farquer 5-27-68, Adj 4-16-71, born 6-29-42, died 1-13-84 (asphyxiation). Dale Glen 5-3-73 10-3-73, 10-12-42 1-18-78 (DHC6 PUB) John Deahl 7-1-74 12-9-74 12-21-44 4-9-81 (P38 crash) Denny Meyer 1-3-78 1-3-78 12-7-43 1-18-78 (DHC6 PUB) D.E. Klock 5-1-78 5-1-78 10-30-45 2-28-79 I am not sure when this list was constructed, but I would think in 1986. So, unfortunately, there have been other "Gone West's" since. -Billy Walker (9/12/03) DUANE N DILLARD Born 31 Dec 1941 Died 19 Nov 1974 Age 32 SSN issued in California -SSDI (9/12/03) Jake - since there seems to be confirmation of the passing of Duane Dillard (from various sources) I will post him on the Pilots' Gone West scroll. -Ace Avakian (9/13/03) I don't know much about Duane Dillard except that he flew for Air America and was from Santa Barbara, Ca. -Ernie Lingren (10/21/03) NAME ALPA # DOB DOH CLASS CLA DATE DILLARD, D N 0454348 12/31/41 01/01/73 DE 10/19/74 per ALPA FL List. -Jake Lamkins (7/16/12) Duane is not on the 1973 or 74 pilot domicile lists. Found his info at FindAGrave.com Nothing more on websearch. ALPA record wrong on date of death and DOH. ALPA and SSDI records show his DOB as 1941 but his gravestone shows 1942. I will assume he was born in 1941 and based in DEN until I hear otherwise. -Jake Lamkins (7/17/12) Posted at FLacebook and the FL Club: Pilot Duane Dillard's memorial webpage has been updated. I found some info on his burial. Still need an obituary, pic and where he was based. Post your remembrances. -Jake Lamkins (7/17/12) Duane Dillard was based in Denver. I traded trips with him just before his death. -Dennis Lacy (7/17/12) I knew Duane fairly well. He married Samantha Ewing for a short time and died not too long after they split. -Billy Watkins (7/17/12)
