DOUG HANSON 1978 - 1986 PILOT DEN The morning of August 24 (?), 1986, we flew into Denver from Oakland. I snapped a photo of each of the pilots. We were pretty sure it was the last trip any of us would fly as a Frontier crew. Bob Methven was our Captain. I can't believe I don't remember the name of that cute first officer! I've always wanted my crew to have this photo of them on the last day Frontier operated, so here you are, guys, if you are out there! Two photos are scanned together, so I apologize for the lack of quality! Half a lifetime later, I still miss the old Frontier and think of you all often! -Cindy Kinslow Javelet (6/26/12) The F/O looks a little bit like Doug Hanson who married my favorite scheduler Vickie (Perry). Doug was furloughed earlier, and they had him working in scheduling where he met Vicky. I'm not sure if he was ever recalled back to the line flying... but somebody with a seniority list will know. -Al Beardsley (6/27/12) D J HANSON Pilot seniority date of 10/17/78, FUR 05/16/81, per the 9/1/81 FL/ALPA Seniority List. D J HANSON Pilot seniority date of 10/17/78 per the 9/1/86 FL/ALPA Seniority List. -Jake Lamkins (6/27/12) I was trying to find a maiden name for Vickie, and found these links. Doug was a good friend of mine, and I participated in the search for his accident site. His airplane wasn't found until after snow melt. http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.northam.usa.states.montana.counties.flathead/1085/mb.ashx?pnt=1 http://groganfuneralhome.com/j-hilbert-hib-hanson/ (Hib... She is not on the 1/1/86 list. -Jake Lamkins (6/28/12) Thanks for all the info on Doug. If you feel fairly sure the photo posted at FLacebook is Doug, I'll use it when constructing his memorial webpage. I found out Vicky's maiden name - Perry. She's on the 7/1/84 ALEA seniority list but not the 1/1/86 list. -Jake Lamkins (6/28/12) Posted at FLacebook and the FL Club. Just got word that FL pilot Doug Hanson died in a small plane crash near FCA in 1998. Doug was at FL 1978 - 1986. http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.northam.usa.states.montana.counties.flathead/1085/mb.ashx?pnt=1 -Jake Lamkins (6/28/12) What a GREAT guy! Some of you don't know he and Vickie designed and sold the VRU computer scheduling program to UPS during our "start-up" years. My wife Susie "hitched a ride with him" one night in his Malibu from Louisville to Denver non-stop working around thunderstorms. -Al Beardsley (6/27/12) This happened many years ago, take a look at the dates in the news article. There are/were many problems finding the wreckage and body parts for proof of death. Without this evidence, no insurance procceds would be forthcoming. A local pilot that did bear locating via collar radios had an impulse about a year after the crash and did locate the crash site. -Bill Truax (6/28/12) To Al Beardsley: I'm starting work on Doug Hanson's memorial webpage. Do you feel positive he is the one on the right in the FLacebook photo. I don't want to use it and be mistaken. -Jake Lamkins (7/3/12) I'm not positive that is Doug... and until someone else "speaks up" I would say "don't use it with his site". We had another F/O who looked like that guy in the picture too. I will have to ASK several of my close pilot friends from FAL for their opinion. SOMEBODY will know. I will try to "ask around". -Al Beardsley (7/4/12) Doug Hanson, Frontier Airlines Pilot Can anybody help Jake Lamkins with more information and/or pictures for his memorial website to Doug Hanson? Does anybody remember Vickie Hanson's maiden name? She was my favorite pilot scheduler at Frontier!!!! Maybe somebody in Colorado can contact one of the Hanson "kids"? -Al Beardsley (7/4/12) IDs on FLacebook photo: Bob Methven and Doug Hanson. 100% sure on Bob and 95% sure on Doug. I flew many trips with both. -Billy Walker (7/4/12) Posted at FLacebook and the FL Club: DEN pilot Doug Hanson's memorial webpage is posted. http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Doug_Hanson.html Post your remembrances about Doug. -Jake Lamkins (7/5/12) What a great guy! Doug was one of our junior pilots who was offered a job "inside the company" when he was furloughed as a pilot. He went to work as a crew scheduler and that's where he met his future bride Vickie... who was my favorite crew scheduler. -Al Beardsley (7/5/12) The FO in the picture with Bob is Doug Hanson! -Richard Cherry (7/5/12) I have GREAT memories of Doug and Vickie too when she was a crew scheduler. I flew numerous trips with Doug. He was a handsome unassuming fellow with excellent stick & rudder skills. I remember how pleasant he was to share the flight deck with and how sad it was to learn of his untimely death. The Piper Malibu he was flying has a poor history, especially flying in icing conditions. The airplane would ice-up and the de-icing was insufficient. Also, the engine (Continental TSIO-520BE) and autopilot were subject to uncommon failures. I suspect that one, or a combination, of these is what happened to Doug.
