DON WOLLENZIEN 1961 - 1986 AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, FOREMAN-AIRCRAFT OVERHAUL, PRODUCTION PLANNER DEN Do we still have a person in charge of collecting Frontier "stuff"? I was cleaning out a drawer and found Monarch Flight Schedules dated November 9, 1947. It not only gives times, etc. but also prices such as Den-COS for $3.65 or DEN-GJT for $11.95. DEN phone # was DExter 5441. -Don Wollenzien (7/27/13) The Arkansas Air Museum at FYV is planning to double the space my CN/FL exhibition has there. http://FYV.tripod.com/FYV_Museum.html I meet with the executive director next week to finalize our plans. We plan an additional display case so that the CN and FL exhibits can be separated which also doubles the display space. Additionally, the Special Collections Library at the University of Arkansas here wants all my airline memorabilia in the way of books, manuals, timetables, etc. I have already given them 8 boxes of FL mx manuals that BJ Blackerby gave me. So, Don, feel free to send me anything you want a home for. Anywhere but the dumpster is my motto. By the way, in all my vast FLiles I only found one item naming you. I have attached it for your pleasure. It's from the Apr 1977 FL News. -Jake Lamkins (7/28/13) My aviation experience started while in the Army in 1955. At the end of my 3 year enlistment, I was assigned to a helicopter unit in Ft. Lewis Washington. On one occasion I was standing by as a H-21 was attempting to drop a large pontoon bridge during a rainstorm. The wind and rain were quite strong and in an instant the entire operation crashed in front of where I was standing. Fortunately the only casualty was the helicopter and the pontoon bridge. From there I was later discharged (honorably) and decided to go to Tulsa with Spartan School of Aeronautics in A & P School and Jet Mechanics. Next I got a job as a helicopter mechanic in Cheyenne and then in Denver. Those outfits folded and I then hired on at Frontier as a mechanic. About 3 years later I was promoted to Supervisor and later as a planner. When Frontier died, I got a planning job in Denver with Continental. When they left Denver I stayed here with MarkAir. Next I worked for Western Pacific in Colorado Springs as a planner. I drove every day from DEN to COS and back for 3 years. After that I decided it was a bit much and I then became a maintenance consultant for close to 15 years traveling to Jakarta and then Europe. While in Jakarta I met this "stranger" and after a bit of conversation it was the old Director of Maintenance for Continental at Denver. He was actually the one who hired me, but he sure looked different as a consultant. After many travels I finished my career as a maintenance planner with Allegiant Air in LAS. However, in the age of working at home, 99% of the work I did was electronically from home. I wrote several maintenance programs on MD-80's and also on B-727,737,757's. I had obtained permission to access all of Boeing manuals, A.D.'s etc. I think it is time I quit this "rambling"... -Don Wollenzien (7/29/13) Hello everyone, This is Jay writing from Don's email.
