DICK URE 1956 - 1971 PILOT SLC BIL Check story in GOLDEN AGE OF FLYING book. (10/20/04) Posted at the FL Club Updated memorial webpage http://Lamkins.tripod.com/Dick_Ure.html Dick Ure, pilot We have very little info on Dick. Does anyone know where he was based, when he started with FL, etc.? -Jake Lamkins (1/9/06) Dick Ure was fun to fly with. He was based out of SLC most, if not all, his all too short career. He was a CV-580 Captain. Dick was a short, but powerful man. His upper arms were the size of most normal thighs. Once, I saw him pick up another pilot by his shirt/jacket, with one hand, and hold him up with his feet dangling above the floor. Dick held this nefarious pilot up like this while scolding him for saying a cross word against our very popular chief pilot. The pilot who's feet were dangling was over 6' tall and around 195 lbs! When he died Dick was with his wife Sarah in a doctor's office complaining of a back pain. Suddenly, he stood up and exclaimed "Sara, I'm going blind!" Those were his last words as I recall from her telling me some 35 years ago. -Billy Walker (1/9/06) You asked for some information on Dick Ure. He was born May 21, 1928 in Ogden, Utah and joined FAL in Salt Lake as co-pilot 7-16-56. Transfered to BIL as Captain in 1963. Back to SLC as co-pilot 1965, then Captain in SLC 1966. Died in Dr. Evans office (Dr. Evans was the company doctor) on March 17, 1971. -Al Kendell (1/9/06) Thanks for the additional info on Dick. I've added it to his webpage. -Jake Lamkins (1/9/06) Gone West Dick Ure heart attack Dick Ure one of the most healthy and vibrant people I have ever known died shortly after having his annual health exam of a heart attack.
