DICK KOPLITZ 1947 - 1976 PILOT DEN I am sorry I didn't give you enough information with the photos. M.E. O'Neil is Ed O'Neil, he was chief pilot and VP of operations. All these people except Ed O'Neil were dispatchers and pilots. Thanks, -Al Kendell (Sent photo of Dick) (2/18/00) It's nice to see all of the Frontier memories preserved. I grew up as a Frontier kid, worked at the new Frontier for a bit, and am trying to get back there as a pilot very soon. Dick was my dad. He died February 2nd, 1992 in St. Joseph's Hospital, Denver, and is buried in Fairmount Cemetery. His third and last wife, Udine is in a nursing home in Littleton. His first wife and my mother is very well, living in Littleton also. My oldest brother Rick lives in Littleton with his wife and two kids. My other brother Ken lives in Parker with his wife and family. I am living in Northern Virginia for now, flying for Colgan Air, a US Airways Express carrier, and hoping to get back to Denver soon. I believe My dad joined Challenger in 1947, was in the first class of 737s later, retired Captain, number 12 in seniority in June 1976. He was always a DEN based Captain, don't know his exact hire date, but his seniority was 247 (second quarter of 1947), and his birthday was June 13,1916. Born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, learned to fly from Steve Wittman. He used to fly home to visit in his P-38 or his Staggerwing Beech. Suppose this is already way too much info for you. Let me know if you'd like anything else. Glad to see someone is keeping all the memories alive. Peace -Rob Koplitz (1-17-02) Hello to all the FLamily, Wanted everyone to know I'm one step closer to returning to the Frontier life. I upgraded to Captain on the Saab 340 at Colgan Air, a US Airways Express carrier. In case you don't know, my dad was Dick Koplitz, Denver Captain from 1947 to '76, retired number 12. I worked for the new Frontier for a short while in '99 before getting my first flying job. I hope to be able to get back to home to Frontier soon. Best wishes to all, -Rob Koplitz (7/10/03) Some of you remember me, Captain Dick Koplitz's youngest son. I've been flying for Colgan Air, a Saab 340 commuter operating as US Airways Express, United Express and Continental Connection, for the last 5-1/2 years. I made Check Airman last year and have enjoyed handing out punishment in the airplane and sim. (just kidding!) I have been trying to land a job at the new Frontier with no luck, but I was just hired by North American Airlines to fly 757/767s international out of JFK. You can only imagine how excited I am to start class next week! -Rob Koplitz (4/19/06) R G Koplitz has a seniority date of 5/8/47 on the 9/1/72 FL/ALPA seniority list. -Jake Lamkins (4/19/06) Posted in Ace Avakian's guestbook: March 06, 2011 Ace was a very good friend to my dad, and visited him when he was in the hospital. A very noble gentleman. God speed and tailwinds into the beautiful western sunset. He will be sorely missed. -Rob Koplitz Hi Rob, I updated your dad's memorial webpage. Email anything you would like to add. -Jake Lamkins (3/27/11) Retirees Dick Koplitz, 29 years, Captain, DEN per FL News, Jun/Jul 1976 -Jake Lamkins (3/27/11) From: Jake LAMKINS Date: Sun Mar 27, 2011 Subject: Updated memorial webpage DICK KOPLITZ 1947 - 1976 PILOT DEN http://fal-1.tripod.com/Dick_Koplitz.html Post your remembrances of Dick. FLacebook request to join Dad worked 1947-76 He was FO, Captain, Check Airman, seniority 472, second quarter of 1947 -Rob Koplitz (5/9/21) Hi Rob, Great hearing from you. Last time was in 2006, I believe. Quite a coincidence: I just started updating your dad's memorial webpage at http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Dick_Koplitz.html You said way back that he started with Challenger but I can't find him on any of the Challenger seniority lists. It appears he started with Monarch. Do you have anything that would shed light of which he started with. Still need an obituary for Dick too. Did you ever get on with the new Frontier? Good to be back in touch. -Jake Lamkins (5/9/21) Penny Overdier I remember Dick Koplitz! Here's one of my memories of him. I'd always wanted to try out the jump seat in the cockpit and he told me he'd see to it one day when the opportunity presented itself. It happened on the old FL 382 on the way between PHX and ABQ. Somehow the stew whisked me from my seat right into the COCKPIT at Dick's 'directive'! I was up front for the landing and stayed there until all passengers were off and it was 'safe' for me to duck out. The stuff memories are made of! (5/9/21) Checked all my files and Dick does not show up on any of the Challenger rosters or pilot seniority lists. So, he must have started with Monarch Airlines and I will show him that way until info to the contrary is received. Unfortunately, I have very few Monarch rosters or seniority lists with which to pin it down. -Jake Lamkins (5/10/21) FLacebook Frontier Memorial Webpage Updated DICK KOPLITZ 1947 - 1976 PILOT DEN http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Dick_Koplitz.html Post your remembrances of him. -Jake Lamkins (5/12/21) I worked for Frontier in FMN Ops during the 50s & 60s. Talked to Dick many times when he would call in on the radio in range of the airport in his DC3. After he landed he would come in the crew room & pick up his weather report & prepare to fly back to DEN. We had many a chat & I never talked to a finer man. -Wally Reid (1/10/22)
