CHARLIE TIMMONS 1964 - 1986 STATION AGENT BIL SNA DEN Just found a copy of the death notice from a good friend that had passed quite some time ago.. Charles (Charlie) Timmons Flew west Dec 03 1988 Worked for FL for 22 years in BIL, SNA and DEN Charlie was 47 years of age at the time of him going west. He was an agent. -Al Krauter (11/3/99) Charlie's History with FAL Charlie went to work for Frontier as a station agent in early 1964. At that time, we had a 2 year old daughter and I was pregnant with our son. He stayed working here in BIL until June 1984 when he took an agent position in Santa Ana, CA, at the John Wayne Airport. Charlie had put his name in for Sacramento a few years earlier when it was just opening up as he wanted to move to CA. Said he was tired of working outside in the cold and wanted a day shift with weekends off! (Being right in the middle seniority wise... if he bid a day shift.... his days off were mid-week a night shift would usually give him one day off on the weekend.) When the call came for Santa Ana, he also had his name in for San Diego & Portland was about to open. Jackie Pfeiffer was also at John Wayne so he knew something of the station and after calling me at work to see if I'd move with him (used to tell him that I WAS NOT moving from BIL and our kids), took a deep breath and accepted the position of station agent there. He was really high in seniority (might even been #1) so he could pick and choose on the shifts. He worked the "weight & balance" morning shift with weekends off. He went to work at 5:30 am so missed the heavy freeway traffic & got off early enough to miss it. It was a 10 minute shoot on the "405" (I think that's what it was called). In April of 1986, we decided to go for Denver as it was closer to BIL (our daughter was expecting her first child) and we could get home to BIL without much trouble (flying or driving). We moved 4 days after experiencing our one and only earth quake... .3.5.... (in the Anaheim area) while living in CA. We really enjoyed our time in California, though. Charlie now worked as a station agent in Denver.. .a morning ramp shift. We bought ourselves a home in Broomfield where we had an excellent view of the mountains in May of `86. The plan was that he would work in Denver 10 yrs, retire at 55 & go back to MT. We moved in over the 4th of July weekend. When Frontier closed it's doors in August, Charlie was on unemployment for at least a few months before going to work for Continental Airlines. He worked a ramp shift. My memory is not what it should be, but I believe it was in October of `86. I was working also and I can remember how it just bothered him so much that I was making more money an hour ($6.50 an hr) then he was when he started with Continental Airlines. Does this sound correct to others that they only made about $5.86 an hr. or something like that for Continental? I know that my wage was higher and it wasn't any barn burner. Continental was NOT union & he felt that Lorenzo had helped put Frontier under. However, he made many good friends at CAL & some other FAL people also worked there. He was working for Continental when he became ill. He was on disability for about 8 months and then went back to work at Continental as a station agent on the ramp.. .again for about 5-6 months. In Sept of 88, he had another surgery & they also discovered that his cancer had returned. He did not return to work. However, he was listed as an employee all through this until his death in Dec. 1988. The agents at CAL took turns (days off.. double duty) working his shifts (as they had earlier when he was on disability)... just enough days to keep his insurance paid for by CAL. & the manager of the Denver station kept him on as an employee. Their generosity to him and myself is something that I will never forget. They held blood drives so that we never paid for any blood (Charlie had probably 60+ units of blood in transfusions over those 17 months). Keeping that insurance which paid 99% of his medical and pharmaceutical bills (we paid a minimal deductible as it was an HMO) kept us afloat. He was always in awe of what they did for him. -Marge Timmons Flynn in the 2003 BIL Reunion Alumni Booklet (7/23/03) I'm afraid I don't check my e-mail very often, hence just reading it tonight. I'll certainly think about adding some information or a picture...I think our children and grandkids would like that. I would like to be a member and receive the newsletter. Let me know the cost for the newsletter and I'll get a check off. -Marge (Timmons) Flynn (8/1/03) Send a photo and any other info you would like on Charlie's webpage. I already have the article you wrote for the BIL Reunion booklet. -Jake Lamkins (8/1/03) My husband, Charlie Timmons, who passed away on 12/3/1988, loved Frontier & was proud to work for them. I enjoy your stories - many of which are new to me & great info. I've saved every issue since I enrolled & look back @ them now & again. Charlie worked Billings, Santa Ana & Denver - so I always look to see if it's anyone I knew in CA or CO. -Marge Timmons Flynn (4/28/10) C M TIMMONS Station agent seniority date of 5/1/64, emp# 08461, on the 1/1/86 FL/ALEA seniority list. -Jake Lamkins (4/29/10) I have a framed copy of the "tin" that Tom Frye shot - an image of a Frontier 737. My husband was proud to be owner of #25 of the print. -Marge Timmons Flynn (7/29/13) Thought you might want to put this pic on Facebook or FAL news. A cold day in BIL heating the DC3, I believe 1964 with Charlie Timmons in the picture. -Bob Voight (1/23/14) Thanks, Bob. That had to be late 1964 because FL changed the logo that year when the CV580s came online and Charlie started at FL 5/1/64. I'll add it to Charlie's FL memorial webpage. -Jake Lamkins (1/23/14) Charlie was great to work with and party with. -Ron Huet (1/23/14) Worked with Charlie at SNA around 84 or 85..One great guy..good man. -Dennis Killip (1/23/14) FLacebook - FL Club FLight West: Charlie Timmons BIL SNA DEN station agent Charlie Timmons' memorial webpage has been updated: http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Charlie_Timmons.html Still need an obituary and photo for Charlie. -Jake Lamkins (2/12/16)
