CAROL PICKETT STILLMAN 1966 - 1986 FLIGHT ATTENDANT SLC DEN Another year and some months, and I'll have been NOT flying for the old FAL as long as I flew for them. In some ways it's a bit sad. There never has been nor will there ever be a more cooperative employee group. What a waste that we were all scattered. But I wouldn't give up that 20 years I had with FAL for anything!!! -Carol Stillman (1/28/05 My dad (Army) was stationed at Ft. Wainwright for a couple or three years. We left right before that huge earthquake in the early or mid 60s. I graduated from high school up there (Austin Lathrup High School, Fairbanks), and attended some classes at the U of Alaska. Colder than hell up there. I loved the experience of living up there, but I wouldn't live there now if you paid me!!! LOL -Carol Stillman (1/30/05) I remember getting not only diverted to COS but shut down there as well. The next day though, you couldn't ask for a more beautiful sight!! The day after a storm, both DEN and COS were picture postcard gorgeous. Clear blue skies, with few, if any clouds, brilliant sun shining off the snow. I really miss the "adventures". I sort of liked irregular ops almost better than regular ones. We used to make it a party onboard and no one seemed to mind too much being delayed. I always loved doing that!! Sure miss the 'old' FAL and especially the fellow employees!! I never have, and most likely never will find a more cohesive workforce. They really blew it when they shut us down!!! -Carol Stillman (4/10/05) I had never read this report (Dec 1967 crash in DEN). It happened, that I was going to work and pulling into the parking lot at Den and saw 65276 go in but didn't know it's full history till I read your report It was a very sad thing. I remember it well. I didn't actually see the plane go in, but was filling up my car at the Chevron station that used to be in front of Stapleton (wow! long time ago) and I saw the black smoke and wondered what had happened. Of course no one knew right then. I found out later in the day what happened and who was on that plane. Almost makes me sick to think about it as I had flown with and knew both pilots. This was very difficult for me to read even after all these years............... Sad just doesn't quite cover it............ Carol Stillman (7/26/05) I love the old FAL employee group, but I have no love for what that company did to all of us, nor do I have fond memories of some of the executives. And all just because Jerry O'Neil wanted out of the airline business. I have a very different version of what went on than does Hank Lund as he wrote in Jake's Frontier News. I wrote Jake that I was going to write my version. But you know........... I just haven't gotten to it, and frankly doubt that I will. I'm busy and my life has moved on. But when someone touts that, yippy good ole FAL paid off all its bills in full...........it really makes me a bit ill. A company does not have to be bankrupt to declare bankruptcy......interesting, eh? -Carol Stillman (8/7/05) I seem to remember some of the pilots did not receive all they pension money, but I could be wrong. But I'm still grateful for the fact that the stews pension was with Traveler's. We got our lump sum right away. I liked that part!~! -Carol Stillman (8/8/05) Out of 21 in our class, I think there were only 4 of us that were there until the end - Diane (Wright) Smith, Diane Hall, Carol (Pickett) Stillman and myself. -Joanne Griffin (12/25/12) Carol Stillman I am sorry to say that Carol passed away this morning from recurring colon cancer. Trudy Ross called to let me know, and to ask that we email those here in SLC and especially in Denver. Trudy had been in touch with her the last couple of weeks and stayed with her a few days ago. Kathy, Carol's sister, and her daughter stayed with her when she died. Kathy said they would be planning a 'Celebration of Life' for Carol as soon as they are able. A great loss to many of her friends. -Sandi Roberts (5/23/13) We flew many flights together. She was so much fun to be around!!!!!! -Gloria Croisant So incredible sad. Thoughts and prayers to her family and friends. Loved you Carol... You were definitely an original and such an important part of the Ol' FAL. -Vicky Veldboon (5/23/13) Sorry to hear of her passing. -Dee Martenson (5/24/13) Carol was one great lady, I am so sad to hear of her passing. We flew many a trip together and had many laughs. You will be missed. Celebrate her life of course, she would want nothing less! -Christina Bonatti (5/24/13) Carol's death was a great shock to me. Her and Clyde were a big part of my life for several years. she will be missed. -Paul Farris (5/24/13) I am so saddened by the news of Carol Pickett joining the Gone West group. I couldn't figure out why I hadn't heard from her the past 6 mos. Carol was such a sharp, funny, pretty lady, she was top notch! I flew about 23 yrs with her, she was one of the best flight attendants Frontier had. Fast worker, quick and extra nice to the passengers and so much fun to work with and hang out with. Carol loved raising Westies. Last time I saw her was in 2005, she came to Denver for a dog show, had 10 dogs with her in a van. We went out to dinner, Jim McGhee, Diane Hall and I to Frank Emerling's Steak house in Aurora. We had a great evening! I will miss my good friend, Carol. -Bonnie Dahl (5/25/13) (She sent several pix of Carol) So sorry to hear about Carol passing. I enjoyed flying with her. Thoughts and prayers to her family. -Leona Elings Lorenzen (5/25/13) So many memories - we were in the same "stew" class in '66 and kept in touch for all the years since FAL's death in '86. The suffering is over and you're in a better place now with all the others that have gone before. We'll see you again someday, old friend. -Joanne Griffin (6/3/13) Good lady, lots of laughs on our brand new 727s! -Jack McLaughlin (6/3/13) Love the lady. She really chewed me out one time when I was new on the 737 and I made a steep approach into SLC. We laughed about it for years. Miss you Carol. -Tom Robertson (6/3/13) This is the picture that was used in Sunday's obituary. I also sent another picture with Carol and all of her Westies. Two of Carol's three Sisters where there, Diane and Kathy. Her two Brothers, Scott and Mark also present. Her good friend and Aunt, Jean Ducan was there to greet us. It was just a get together with lunch, snacks and lots of delicious deserts. Frontier folks present besides Bobbie, Ellen and I were, Ex F/A's Sandi Roberts, Virginia Pickett and Trudy Ross. Also Capt Joe Ferguson, wife Carol, Capt Bob Williams, wife Sue ( also ex Stew). Several other friends were present. We saw all the awards Carol had received for her Horses and her many Westie's. She showed these dogs, won several awards and also bred them. She had about 10 dogs still with her up to her departure. Carol's Aunt, Jean Duncan told me Carol was not afraid, she was just sorry she didn't make it to her 70th year. She had a productive and happy life. As a stewardess she the best of the best, very smart, fun to work with, loved by the crews and the passengers. It was a privilege to attend this family & friends gathering, she was a dear friend. Family was very happy to see the Frontier News with her photo and notes from folks. This photo 9/66, grad from FL training. Bonnie Here's a photo is from September 14, 1966, when she graduated from FL training. The other three were displayed at the gathering. -Bonnie Dahl (9/21/13) FLacebook - FL Club SLC DEN flight attendant Carol Pickett Stillman's memorial webpage has been updated. http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Carol_Pickett_Stillman.html Several items added to Carol's webpage from her memorial service which was held Sep 14, 2013 Sep 14 was Carol's date of hire with FL in 1966. -Jake Lamkins (4/10/14) FLacebook - FL Club FLight West: Carol Pickett Stillman SLC DEN flight attendant Carol Pickett Stillman's memorial webpage has been updated. http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Carol_Pickett_Stillman.html A couple of items added and the webpage brought up to date. -Jake Lamkins (5/20/17)
