BUDDY HEAD 1959 - 1984 PILOT GSW DAL DEN After the Navy, Bobby Head took his family to Dallas. They lived in Irving where Bobby worked as a bricklayer (his other love). He took his flight ratings and when Central Airlines hired Bobby, he thought his career was launched. Unfortunately, his brother, Buddy also worked for Central. Bobby was hired in the morning and fired that afternoon, as I recall. No relatives! That same day someone at Central told Bobby that Braniff was hiring for the first time in years, so he hot-footed it over to their Dallas offices and got on as a flight engineer. -http://www.mycapsule.com/icarus/DD16.html (12/16/08) Sale of first flight envelope: On January 6, 1983, over 20 years ago, Frontier Airlines inaugurated service from Denver to Springfield, Missouri. This lot consists of an envelope that was postmarked on the inaugural date in Denver and then flown on the first ever flight by Frontier DEN to Springfield. Not only that, but the envelope was autographed by the pilot who flew that first flight, Captain Buddy Head. The USPS participated in the events surrounding this important flight by applying a special rubber-stamped design ONLY to those envelopes ACTUALLY FLOWN on the inaugural flight. -Ebay.com (6/15/09) Just now (12/2/10 @ 1935) received this note from Jim Harcrow. ============================= Buddy Head flew west this evening, memorial services will be performed in January after the holidays. -Phil Stallings (12/2/10) With regret, just received word of the Gone West of Capt. O C Head, CV580 captain based in DEN per the 5/1/71 FL Pilots Domicile List. O C Head, B737 captain based in DEN per the 4/78 through 5/83 FL Pilot Domicile Lists. The 5/84 list shows him on sick leave and he is not on the 5/85 list. I will assume he retired in 1984 until further info received. The article from Flight magazine was found during a web search yesterday. -Jake Lamkins (12/9/10) Buddy was the first office on Frontier's first hijacking on April 13, 1972. It happened at ABQ and Willie Hurt was the captain. The hijacking ended in LAX when the hijacker gave up after getting time on radio and tv to voice his grievances. No one was injured in the hijacking. -Jake Lamkins (2/3/11)
